WSU athletics defecit spending

Very irresponsible on the part of the University president. According to Moos he endorsed deficit spending equaling more than 21% of the total athletic budget.

Is anyone totally surprised by this? I mean...this is WSU we're talking about. The worst bang for buck in Division I.

This is proof that can spends millions to dress up a pig, but when your done wasting money it's still a pig.

It's sound as if Floyd and Moos may have some explaining to do. I hope the trustees see fit to fire both of them, and hopefully they can take pirate boy with them.

That deficit is equivalent to Eastern's total spending. WSU's truth is that it isn't the spending that's out of control, it's the inability to generate any revenue that's the problem. The spending is still second to bottom in the Pac12, but the revenue is dead last.

The sad part is how they try to downplay a $13 million deficit as no big deal. The tax payers will have to cover down on that, and if I have to to eat a $13M deficit, I'd rather it be for the school I went to, and not the fraudsters at WSU.

If our athletics department were even a fraction of that amount in the red you'd have people trying to shut down the entire University.

Should not matter whether you are an alum of a particular school. As a citizens of and taxpayer in the state of Washington I am shocked that any state dept or agency is allowed to run deficits of over 20% of their total budget.
The athletic director has been allowed to spend 20% more than their budget and it is endorsed by the university president.
The lame excuse that they had to pay Ken Bones contract off, about 1/12th of the deficit, is an insult to the intelligence to all Washington taxpayers.
Call your local elected official and voice your opinion.

I don't think the taxpayers will be directly hit with the bill. The money will eventually come from the university's coffers (much of which comes from taxpayers), but taxes won't be raised to cover this amount--- it'll be lost opportunity cost for the university instead. In other words, as an example, they may have to cut facilities expenditures by 10% for 3 years and new library materials may get pushed back a year. What they won't get is an extra $13mm from the state simply for the purpose of covering the debt.

The crazy thing is with all of their increased spending, they still aren't able to field a football or basketball team that is any better than 50/50 to beat Eastern.
