WSU OL Rodgers trying to transfer to EWU

OL depth just increased which is a great thing. Started all 12 games for WSU. Didn't play Spring bll...perhaps an injury? http://www.wsucougars.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/jake_rodgers_585387.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A RS junior this coming season so will he have two years of playing left?

EWURanger,
Spoke with one of the Coaches yesterday reference Rodgers leaving WSU, I was told he had some issues with his paperwork, just have to wait and see. I am impressed with Zach Johnson,TR fm WSU on D-Line, he looks outstanding, :thumb:   and very strong. Keep your eyes out for Branson Schmidt, think he is from CV, he is looking very strong and is really building up his muscles. :thumb: :thumb:   Take care, have a great weekend. Vic

I have not seen any confirmation that he is coming or that the coaching staff wants him.
Is this treated like freshman recruits where talk is not allowed by coaches?

It is my understanding that he must be released from WSU before EWU can talk with him or make any type of offer. We will be very carefull to stay within the NCAA rules. We must wait for Rogers to get his release from WSU.

Blog entry on Cougfan states he received his release from WSU, The agremeent was he wouldn't go to a team that plays the Cougs in the next two years.

So does that mean he has enrolled at EWU because last time I checked WSU is not on our schedule for the next two years.
Also in my opinion that is a dumb stipulation to have to agree to.

I'll say again, do we feel the EWU staff really wants him? Maybe the reasons he quit at WSU is an attitude they don't want?

I think it's fairly simple. Our coaching staff has looked into the situation in depth and if they feel it's a sound investment...they will invest.

To All,
Our Coaches had approximately 650 young men in their FB Camps. I have never seen "Friday Night Lights", they had it there at EWU yesterday, about 7pm. I have never seen so many young FB Players having so much fun. They were all impressed when the Scoreboard came on and the films started showing introductory films. If you missed it, you missed something spectacular. One team that really impresses me are Woodenville High School, they have some fantastic ball Players. This is not to say the other teams are no good, all those teams are outstanding teams. We left about 845pm, and they were still going. Now for the news some are looking for. I spoke to Todd Rodgers WSU Transfer yesterday, he was there with his former Player and friend, Zachary Johnson, that young man is very big. He told me he moved in and is ready to go, seems like a nice young man to talk with. I was incorrect when I said Joe Douglass was in, it was Rodgers. When I mention practice starts Aug 6, those are for the Freshmen coming in, the old players ;) comes in on Aug 7th. Contractors working on the New Parking Lot, quit work at 6pm. Have a Great morning and 4th of July. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Big differences between High School Football in Seattle area vs Eastern Wash. #1 is obvious...population, #2 is youth football, especially in the Kingco Conference.

Every Kingco high school has a volunteer run youth football program where there are multiple teams from Grades 3-8. Skyline and Bellevue have over 250 kids in their area that play youth football and know Skyline and Bellevue's playbook inside and out before their first day as freshmen. Look at who are the dominate 3A/4A and teams, Bellevue and Skyline. They both are in Kingco and have a very organized youth football programs. No disrespect to programs such as my alma mater Mead, but the results come time each year for the state playoffs speak for themselves. You mentioned Woodinville, who is also in Kingco.

Their are 5 current Kingco players on EWUs roster, three from Skyline. Add Nick Splendorio (WR) in the latest recruiting class.

Quote from HC BB on Splendorio and the coaching he received at Skyline:

"He comes in as a very polished wide receiver because of the program he plays in, how many balls he is able to catch and the routes he runs. Coach (Matt) Taylor does an incredible job there, and Nic may be further along than other players because of the program he comes from.”

Do you really think kids learn anything from playing football in grades 3-6? I always figured kids should just start once they start growing and being able to actually hit and get hit, instead of being little kids just sort of falling on each other.

Really, I'd say the time spent in the weight room is where the real kids separate in 8th and 9th grade. If you enter high school with man-sized muscles, you're already way ahead of the curve. Whether you've played or not beforehand is made rather irrelevant.

I suppose it is probably fun for kids who just love the game to play at those early ages, I just wouldn't be so certain it really affects their development as players.

Football is unique in that for the most part you don't have to start early to acquire the skills to be good at the game(unlike soccer/basketball/golf and others). For example one of our star receivers, Raul Vigil, didn't touch a football until his senior year high school. The earlier you start football the greater chance of acquiring injuries(especially concussions).

Same with Michael Roos, and now he's a top 5 LT in the NFL.

Read the post. My point is the reason why Kingco teams have a significant advantage over other teams in Washington is their Youth programs. The results speak for themselves. A previous post stated how impressed Woodinville looked. There are multiple cases of players blooming in high school, that wasnt the point of my post.

There's a reason why EWU has more current Kingco players than any other conference.

Read which post...the one that has to do with the title of the thread? Don't think anyone was questioning your point...like most threads things go sideways sometimes, it's all good.
