WSU OL Rodgers trying to transfer to EWU

so there are more Division 1 level athletes in the Seattle area than over on the east side...amazing revelation.

but back on topic, is this guy enrolled or what?

Read the post. My point is the reason why Kingco teams have a significant advantage over other teams in Washington is their Youth programs. The results speak for themselves. A previous post stated how impressed Woodinville looked. There are multiple cases of players blooming in high school, that wasnt the point of my post.

There's a reason why EWU has more current Kingco players than any other conference.

My son came up through the junior football program at Inglemoor (Kingco) and it was very evident with some of the east side schools that they engrained the basics of their high school offenses and defenses into the kids at a young age, so that when they got to high school, they already were familiar with it. Our program wasn't set up that way. Each coaching staff at every level taught what they were familiar with, which brought with it no continuity going forward...and the high school coach really didn't embrace the connection between the Junior football program and the high school. Where that really shined was Bothell, Woodinville, Skyline, and Bellevue, and they continue to do well today.

It doesn't seem to me that Kingco has more players at EWU than the SPSL... By my count from the spring roster Kingco had 6 players and SPSL had 7 players. You mentioned Sblendorio so that makes 7 for Kingco, but I see 3 recruits from the SPSL making 10 for them. You must be doing that "new" math....

But what is the status of Jake Rodgers (6-6 323)? I've heard an unsubstantiated rumor that he has moved to Cheney? Has he enrolled at Eastern? Can he do the summer workouts if he is not a student? We found out a couple of years ago that you can never have too many O linemen especially the 6-6 320 pound variety.

I believe he was enrolling at Eastern when his transfer was announced. I think this is a done deal. At least, the coaches thought that as of late May. I haven't heard anything has changed since then.

Vic mentioned in an earlier post that he spoke to him on campus, so i would think yes.

It's official:

#65 Jake Rodgers
OL, 6-6, 320, Jr., Spokane, Wash.

2013: Listed as backup at left offensive tackle on the preseason depth chart. He should compete for a starting position and will be able to play multiple positions along the offensive line. Will attend EWU for the first time in fall 2013 after transferring from Washington State. Washington State: Earned a varsity letter after starting all 12 games on the offensive line for the Cougars. He started at right guard in the team’s season-opener at BYU, then started at left guard in WSU’s 24-20 win over Eastern Washington. He started a total of three games at right guard (BYU, UNLV, Colorado), one at left guard (EWU), five at right tackle (Oregon, Oregon State, California, Stanford, Utah) and the final three games of the season at left tackle (UCLA, Arizona State, Washington). He redshirted in 2010 and earned Scout Team Offensive Player of the Week accolades against Arizona State. HS: Graduated from Shadle Park HS in 2010. As senior, he served as team captain and was named to the EvergreenStatePreps.com All-State team (3A-and-under). Rodgers was named by the Seattle Times as a “Red Chip” selection as one of the top 22 prospects in the state of Washington. He was also a three-star prospect according to Scout.com and was rated No. 20 overall in the state of Washington and No. 37 at his position nationally. He earned first team All-Greater Spokane League honors in 2008 – one of just three juniors on the 17-man offensive team. He was a three-year letterwinner in football, and played as a tight end and defensive end, and also was a kicker and punter for head coach Mark Hester. He also lettered three times in basketball and participated in baseball. As a sophomore, he helped lead the Highlanders to the State 3A Basketball Tournament. His Eagle teammates Bo Schuetzle (’09) and Cameron Babcock (’13) also graduated from Shadle Park.

It says he'll be competing for one of the tackle spots - it would seem right tackle since that's the one vacated by Post and Debord started at left tackle last season. He seems very versatile, though, since he played basically every position on the offensive line last season at WSU. Either way, looks like we'll have a good rotation on the offensive line this season.

That'll be great for keeping guys fresh and running the ball more to close out games. I really hope we can get back to having a 1000 yard rusher with the OL we have, and sprinkling in the read option.

I wonder why the article on the Eagles in the Spokesman this morning made no mention of this...

Well, I think it's kind of old news actually. He's been on campus for a while, but wasn't on the roster until the most recent one dated August 2nd.

He's been in town since June I believe. The fact that they hadn't announced anything was due to paperwork. It was reported by various sources a couple months ago that he was transferring in.

If DJ Martin ever steps foot on the inferno, you may just get your wish.
