Our offense will be on Par with any in the Pac 12, our defense will be suspect at best.

Eastern will move the ball and score points, we put 42 on Oregon last year, 52 on Washington the year before that, and 49 on Oregon State 3 years ago when we beat them. We almost beat WSU in 2012 and were a 32 yard pass away from winning that game on the last play.

We have one of the best receivers in the country, at all levels, in Kupp, and two studs that play with him. Our offense is dynamic and will only be better this year with Taylor as our OC.

It will come down to Eastern getting a couple of turnovers and playing perfect for us to have a shot to win. Both teams will put up a ton of yards and points, Eastern will just need some help on D in order to pull this one off.

Yep I know all about Kupp.

Here is the quick scoop

QB: Falk is special, that is the only way I can put it.

RB: By far the deepest and might be most talented position on the offense(yes that is the truth). Leach has a really good RB coach and these kids are big, fast and all have WR hands, that is why they are at WSU. Last years #3 back was moved to inside WR as the RS Freshman who was supposed to be good, turned out to be really good. Can't wait to see him play
.
OL: Lost 2 one to the NFL, but his replacement started 4 games for him after he was hurt vs Stanford. Really liked him at practice, very athletic. Other is a mountain of a human 6 8 354lbs. Other three are back and they line should be very solid.

WR: lots of them and very tall on the outside less Marks, the rest are 6 4 or taller.

DL: Not as big as last year, both nose tackles go 305, 320, DT are about 290 and the DE are 250. But the kids can flat run, that is what the new DC hired last year wanted and now has.

LB: Same as DL, leaned down kids all about 225 to 240, but most rangy 6 3 6 4 less a couple. Some were Safeties at one point, so again they moved speed up. They lost 2 starters last year but have far more speed now and these kids played a ton a year ago so not knew to them.

DB: By far the deepest part of the entire team, lost 1 in entire 2 deep. When Leach arrived the DB's were like watching cement cure the majority were so slow. I was shocked at the speed they have now. They will be a tough match up people this year as a whole I think.

Punter: yikes, still can't figure out how they can't find one.

Kicker: Good, big leg and accurate

That is it in a nutshell. Expectations are high after the 9 wins and with the amount of players returning on both sides of the ball, this could be a very good football team. They lost 3 players in the 2 deep on offense and 4 in the 2 deep on defense as they were really young last year. If they can't build off last season this will really a disappointment. After Portland State disaster they learned a powerful lesson and if not for a missed 45 yard FG with no time left vs Stanford they would won 8 of their next 9 and played in the PAC 12 title game, damn that hurt. But not as much as not having Falk, Marks, , and Cracraft vs UW, just a different team without them.

Most importantly beer being sold in stadium during games everywhere, whoo hooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cougs should be good this year, justified high expectations. Eastern will have to play perfect in this one to have a chance, but it should be a great game...

I feel like I know how good this team will be less then in any year in recent memory. O-line has talent but is in experienced and qb could be awesome or something much less. I just keep thinking/hoping the defense will be better, and if they are this team could be special but I didn't see 6-5 coming last year either. WR is absolutely loaded 6 deep.

My gut says this is going to be a great team that wins the Big Sky again but it really could go either way.

I know eastern very well won't say why, it would out me. Feel free to pm me it's it's very interesting.

I know you lost linemen and the D was very young though.

It will be an interesting game. I have had season ticks for a long tome and this team has serious talent, they have not have kids like this for 13 years. Leach is a hell of recruiter. You don't beat ucla, Oregon, Az, miami(still had studs was at the game) on the road and they return almost all of them.

I feel like we will probably have a rough start to this game but if we can weather the storm early, who knows. Truth be told, we don't really have an idea of what kind of team we have this year and may not know much until game 3 as we play WSU and 4 x defending champions NDSU back to back.

WSU is probably a 3 TD favorite in this game.

Just heard Leach say that he thinks EWU's "1st level guys" are as good as WSU's first team. I'm going to assume he's talking about EWU's offense. I get the fact that he has to say all the right things to the media, but he usually says what's on his mind and quite frankly I would have to agree with him. Kupp gets all the attention, and rightfully so. But guys like Nic Splendorio who is a River Cracraft clone, and Kendrick Bourne who reminds me of Dom Williams from last year's WSU's squad are going to equally impress Coug fans. These guys get overlooked and could start for a lot of west coast teams...and I'm talking about the Pac 12 kind. I can see them giving the Cougar defense fits, even with your solid secondary. There's more guys I could name, and I think we'll hear from them too on Saturday.

All this being said, the Cougs could easily run away with this one because their offense is a thing of beauty with a great general in control of it. Our defense most likely won't be able to slow WSU down and that's where the Eags run into problems. I don't see many Pac 12 teams slowing them down either. We will need to trade score for score for EWU to have a chance in this one. I'm thinking about the UW game we lost a couple years back 59 to 52. It will most likely need to look like that game for us to have a chance. Throw in +2 on turnovers for the Eags and I think it could be a game. Going +2 will be a tall task for the Eagles though. Time will tell. Really looking forward to this one. WSU has really got things going in the right direction and they have my respect. I'll be there cheering on the Eags!

go Eags!

Completely agree with this statement SeaEag. Last year really pulled the rug out from under what I thought about the state of the program. Do believe in the athlete's and glad of the coaching moves made in the off season. Big hope for me is the team does have the large improvement from week 1 to week 2 and my expectation is they play well against the Cougs and that improvement would make them a beast against FCS competition :-)

Totally agree on all counts. It'll be a trial by fire for the Eastern's defense. If Eastern is going to have success this season, they must come out of the gate strong. Winning isn't really the measure for this game, but there has to be some ability to both move the ball and make stops against WSU. Having some amount of momentum going into Fargo is an absolute must. If we come out of the first two games getting our ass handed to us, there's a pretty good chance that UNI becomes a herculean task.

At some of the pressers he seems delusional, is there such a thing as per-alhzeimers?

Your stmt "Truth be told, we don't really have an idea of what kind of team we have this year".
Everything on this board is speculation except for Vic's observations. He is the ONLY fan I know that is at most every practice and really knows to players. The rest is BS

Last season Falk was knocked out of games with concussions a couple of times. When he came off the field after one of those incidents his eyes were dilated like saucers yet the med staff let him back in the 2nd half. Does he seem susceptible to that?

Please don't put things on here that are not true, makes you look well crazy. Falk had one concussion, 1 vs Colorado. He hurt his shoulder vs UCLA, I was at the game and was allowed to come back and play.

He is crazy smart, that is part of the problem as his mind is always going.

I have met him on multiple occasions at fund raisers and even talked to him once in down town just passing by on a non-football game weekend when I was in town. He is very friendly and will talk your ear off. His Swing you Sward about how he built the Texas Teach program is a hell of a read. I knew nothing about him when he was hired and everything he has done at WSU is exactly that same as the chapters in the book, total creature of habit. When you read it, you realize that he is an old school coach, who expects perfection and toughness from his players, kind of Lomabariesque in a way but with the passing game.

WSU is lucky to have him. He has brought in kids who are students as well as athletes, god Wulff left it an absolute mess, it was really that bad. The team you played in 2012 would lose to this one by 100.
In just short of 5 years with all his recruits now in the program they have highest GPA's average ever, best APR rates ever this which he said he would do the day he was hired. Plus won 9 games and return so many players from that last season who played significant roles on both sides of the ball that if they don't do it again things will be really, well not good around here.

Yeah they had some issues this summer with fights, but in football you can't have all choir boys playing for you or you get beat.
