Congrats on your win, sounds like it was a barn burner. Safe travels to anyone making the trip to Sac. This game should answer some questions about both teams.

Once again like in 2008, I believe this will make or break Weber or Sac State's season. I expect a close and hard-fought game in which the winner will get an added measure of confidence to be able to compete for the BSC championship. WSU 38 Sac 35.

Pray to the football Gods this game doesn't go into OT!! I am too old for the drama....LOL

WSU 38 Sac State 13

The DEFENSE is going to make a statement in this game, and none too soon !

This is a big game, if we play hot potatoe like we did saturday, Sac will kill us.

Take care of the rock, and just do your thang Weber and you'll be just fine.

Oh and one more thing, LET JOSH BOOKER START

In the defense's defense (lol), they were on the field for almost 48 mins...Also, NCU/UNC, whatever, converted a lot of long 3rd down conversions by scrambling or finding the fourth receiving option. So...

Agreed, anytime you turn the ball over you're tiring out your defense, especially your big boys up front on the d-line. A lot of the 3rd down conversions were due to both a lack of a pass rush and failure to set up a solid contain wall. Coverage looked pretty good in the UNC game, but a lack of a pass rush will always cause coverage to breakdown.

The D Line is not looking good at all. There was absolutely no pressure put on the quarterback against NC, and containment was terrible. Someone needs to step up this week.

I disagree. The D line looked pretty good against UNC most of the time. They were blocking holes against their run game all night. Our containment and secondary needs to step up. The Line Backers need to get into gear. We saw a lot of missed tackled on the qb by the Line Backers.

Although you would like a 'lot more pressure' on the QB, I agree that the LB's were lacking a bit in the attack mode. Either misalignment of wrong assignment, they looked a step out or a step slow on making the plays they needed to. I am sure the coaches will pick it up on film......and make the needed adustments.

If you think the defense was stuggling on saturday, please watch the re-run of the game on altitude. You will notice that the defense played well. Do you really excpect for the d-line to sack the qb every snap? Let's be real. They played well and only will get better. Let's stop downing the defense. I'm not sure what else you want from those guys? Go wildcats!!!

Also did we not give NCU the ball 6 times and a few of them in scoring range yet our D held them to just 13 points?

I am being real. Of course I don't expect the d-line to sack the QB every snap. That's a stupid comment. But one sack during a 4 overtime game in which the opposing offense passed the ball 36 times and had the ball for over 47 minutes clearly shows that there was very little pressure being put on the quarterback.

I can't wait till Saturday! I think it's going to be a close call again (I don't know if my heart can take that again  ...) It's hard to gauge how good the team is after two unique games. But Weber pulls it out 33-30!

For a true championship caliber team, no single game can make or break a season. The EWU loss in 2008 did not break Weber, who went on to demolish the #3 Cal Poly in the playoffs. In and of itself, Montana's loss last week to CP-SLO is likewise not going to break the Grizz season or make the Mustangs' season.

Sac State is a crucual game for Weber State, but we have a lot of football left to play in 2010.

Weber needs to make a statement. If the Wildcats hold onto the ball this time, I think they beat the Hornets by double digits.

Native,
As a huge fan of your posts and analysis, I respectfully disagree. A loss here would be devastating, with games against the Montana schools, EWU, and Northern Arizona looming. I doubt this young team makes it through those unscathed. If we lose the Sac game, we will have to rely on other teams losing/underdogs winning to be BSC champs. The EWU loss in 2008 was at the end of the season when there was little left to prove and we had already locked up the championship. The Cal-Poly game was non-conference which means little to the Griz's long-term and playoff future. A win in Sac puts WSU at 2-0, EWU or UM will have to start out 0-1. I feel this game is equivalent to the Sac game in '08, and the Montana State game at home in '09, each game dramatically affected the Big Sky Conference crown race.

Weber fans picking a Wildcat win seem to be in the minority. Just about everyone on the other boards and media sites are picking Sac St to win this one. Considering this, a Weber win would be a very nice win. Go Cats!

Thank you very much for your kind and generous post, bigskychamps07!

Potato, potatoe... Perhaps we agree more than we disagree. I take your points about the importance of a victory and a young team making it through a very tough conference schedule. And I agree the 2009 victory over MSU was a major key on our road to the playoffs.

A win in Sacramento will indeed have immediate beneficial short term impact in favor of Weber in the polls, conference standings and self-confidence, while the other strong teams are left to struggle. But I do not consider early season games to be "make or break."

Although we agree on several points, I am respectfully sticking with my guns on some key issues!

1. The 2008 EWU loss was very meaningful because we lost a seed and homefield advantage to the Grizz! What might the second round outcome have been had the game been played at home in Stewart Stadium?

2. I am looking at the long term, not the short term. Yes, a win is important, but a championship caliber team can overcome obstacles. On the other hand a win this early will not make the Weber season. Young, inexperienced teams become experienced championship caliber teams by overcoming adversity. A loss to Sac State would be devastating, but a loss followed by an otherwise flawless conference performance would give Weber the conference title. Our performance against Cal Poly in 2008 was an example of a championship caliber response to adversity.

3. On the other hand, if we lose to Sacramento State this week, it tells me that we have major performance problems, far more than it speaks to me of the importance of the game itself. I don't like to think this way, but there it is...

Alone on top of the conference, Weber is indeed in the catbird's seat! Let's hope the boys can keep it that way!
