Once again like in 2008, I believe this will make or break Weber or Sac State's season. I expect a close and hard-fought game in which the winner will get an added measure of confidence to be able to compete for the BSC championship. WSU 38 Sac 35.

For a true championship caliber team, no single game can make or break a season. The EWU loss in 2008 did not break Weber, who went on to demolish the #3 Cal Poly in the playoffs. In and of itself, Montana's loss last week to CP-SLO is likewise not going to break the Grizz season or make the Mustangs' season.

Sac State is a crucual game for Weber State, but we have a lot of football left to play in 2010.

Weber needs to make a statement. If the Wildcats hold onto the ball this time, I think they beat the Hornets by double digits.

Native,
As a huge fan of your posts and analysis, I respectfully disagree. A loss here would be devastating, with games against the Montana schools, EWU, and Northern Arizona looming. I doubt this young team makes it through those unscathed. If we lose the Sac game, we will have to rely on other teams losing/underdogs winning to be BSC champs. The EWU loss in 2008 was at the end of the season when there was little left to prove and we had already locked up the championship. The Cal-Poly game was non-conference which means little to the Griz's long-term and playoff future. A win in Sac puts WSU at 2-0, EWU or UM will have to start out 0-1. I feel this game is equivalent to the Sac game in '08, and the Montana State game at home in '09, each game dramatically affected the Big Sky Conference crown race.

Thank you very much for your kind and generous post, bigskychamps07!

Potato, potatoe... Perhaps we agree more than we disagree. I take your points about the importance of a victory and a young team making it through a very tough conference schedule. And I agree the 2009 vistory over MSU was a major key on our road to the playoffs.

A win in Sacramento will indeed have immediate beneficial short term impact in favor of Weber in the polls, conference standings and self-confidence, while the other strong teams are left to struggle. But I do not consider early season games to be "make or break."

Although we agree on several points, I am respectfully sticking with my guns on some key issues!

1. The 2008 EWO loss was very meaningful because we lost a seed and homefield advantage to the Grizz! What might the second round outcome have been had the game been played at home in Stewart Stadium?

2. I am looking at the long term, not the short term. Yes, a win is important, but a championship caliber team can overcome obstacles. On the other hand a win this early will not make the Weber season. Young, inexperienced teams become experienced championship caliber teams by overcoming adversity. A loss to Sac State would be devastating, but a loss followed by an otherwise flawless conference performance would give Weber the conference title. Our performance against Cal Poly in 2008 was an example of a championship caliber response to adversity.

3. On the other hand, if we lose to Sacramento State this week, it tells me that we have major performance problems, far more than it speaks to me of the importance of the game itself. I don't like to think this way, but there it is...

Alone on top of the conference, Weber is indeed in the catbird's seat! Let's hope the boys can keep it that way!

I understand your logic, but I think more than anything all this team needs is confidence. In my humble opinion, the talent is there to be champions, but a loss at Sac will damage their confidence and morale and might destroy their season.

Honestly, I really don't understand why we are worried about Sac State. So far, the Hornets haven't been able to limit teams through the air. They know that Weber has a strong passing game so they might try to over compensate, which is great for the Cat, since we have a great running game too. Three very unique and different backs to prepare for. Also, there is no way that they can limit the passing game. Yes, Toone is gone, but Weber is very deep and dangerous. Honestly, I think its harder for teams now, since there isn't one guy they have to focus on. Now there are 8 (Phillips, Collins, Kamana, Raught, Walker, Kehano, Bolen, Eldridge). They haven't been able to do so in the past four years, and I don't think things are going to change on saturday.

Yes, Sac is a improved team, according to recruitment lists. However, they have suffered a number of injuries, their OL hasn't shown much life, and their defensive backfield isn't very stingy. I'm not sure how they think they are going to beat the best offensive team in the Big Sky, if not the country. Yes, they have some great weapons of their own, and they will be playing on their home field (that in and of itself, could keep things close). Those are things that must be taken into account, no matter, Mac's Cats have been very good on the road. So...

The only reason the Bears were close last week was because of the 6 TOs. If Weber keeps caughing up the ball, then yes, I think Sac has a great chance of beating the Cats. Weber cannot continue turning over the ball and putting the defense in bad situations. Currently, the offense has accounted for one TD a game for the opposing team. That has got to stop if the Cats want to continue being successful. Weber has a much better team than many thought. They can still move the ball well and the defense has been good in the redzone. The team cannot look to far forward. They have to focus on one game at a time. One week at a time.

I don't think this game will even be close. WSU is going to be pissed off about the way they played last week and will take Suck St. out behind the woodshed and give them yet another beating.
WSU 42
Suck St. 17

Take care of the rock....take what the defense gives you..make a play now and then...keep your head in the game. WSU 31 Sac State 10.

Agreed!

if we take care of the rock we smoke em.

TSN:

What to know: Sacramento State has had its fill of Weber State quarterback Cameron Higgins, who has completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 915 yards and 13 touchdowns without throwing an interception in the last three meetings between the schools.

13 / 3 = 4.3 TD passes per game vs Nut.

Hell of a game. Good luck the rest of the way.

Congratulations on a very impressive win, SDHornet!!!
Thanks, but I had nothing to do with the win aside from supporting this program and yelling and screaming at my computer monitor while watching the game. WSU faces a weak cal-davis team at home next week. I’ll be pulling for a Wildcat rout. :)

Hey guys just wanted to stop and thank Weber for a good game. I know it didn't turn out the way you guys wanted but it was well played and entertaining. I enjoyed talking to some of your fans that had made the trip after the game, really nice folks. Good luck the rest of way, especially this week vs davis! I hope to be able to make the trip to Ogden next season!

What the hell is going on with this team? The O-line play is inconsistent at best, the D-line is terrible, we have pretty much no running attack. I could go on and on here, bottom line is that this team needs to get their attitude back. The whole team is playing soft right now, and that has got to stop. Like Mac said, "its time to wake up and smell the bacon" and for hell's sakes strap it up and hit somebody already!

Sac State found a way to win despite obstacles. We found multilpe ways not to win. Gotta get better!
