WSU - The team to beat?

I think most expected WSU to have a good season, but I for one did not expect them to be this good. They have lost 2 games to FBS schools by a combined total of 8 points.

Could this be the year for the Wildcats, and the year someone finally de-thrones Montana?

For some reason I thought Weber State had won that game. The Big Sky teams have done well in general but I do think Weber has the edge.

They have the McBride factor which is huge, they should have won it last year but they choked at the end. Hopefully this year they finish the job and end Montana's streak.

The conference might be wide open. I don't know who is the favorite. MSU looked horrible by barely winning against Dixie State.

We even looked more pathetic in person. I had some real reservations about this Bobcat team coming into the season, and now I am really scared. We have alot of areas to work on, primarily our defensive secondary. If you guys have any kind of passing game in two weeks, you will throttle us, plain & simple. What was supposed to be one of the best defenses in the Big Sky is turning out to be pretty vanilla.

Well, we do have a passing game. I was stunned at how fast our WRs are watching them in person on Saturday. They were behind the San Diego secondary all day and gave Kansas' secondary problems as well, causing 4 pass interference penalties.

Well, there's a good chance you'll have a hey-day against our secondary. It all starts with injuries. One starting safety, junior Arnold Briggs, was lost in fall drills for the season to injury. Then starting strong safety Kevin Retoriano went down and was supposed to be out 4-6 weeks. He played this past Saturday, but his arm was all taped and splinted, so he was really a non-factor. He might be close to 100% when we tangle with you guys. Then our senior CB, Cory Nichol, went down in fall drills with a bum shoulder. He hasn't played the first two games, but should be back in for the MSU-UNC game. So against Michigan State and Dixie State, we basically had second-stringers, and freshmen at that, lining up in the defensive backfield. Needless to say, they have just been picked apart.

We have our bye week this Saturday, so maybe we can get some things figured out.

Yeah, we know about injuries too. We've got them dropping like flies. Our two starting receivers are out for the year. We're deep at that position so we'll be OK. I'm concerned about our injuries on OLIne.

I don't think any team in the conference can say how good or bad they will be just by judging the first two games. I think it at least takes 3-4 games to find out. I like our team so far but if we lay an egg against EWU and MSU, we could be back to square one.

MSU fans - you will have to worry about our receivers. As mentioned before, they were even getting behind KU"s secondary with ease.

Screw Weber and the the wives they rode in on. I hope the 0-2 start together with all nobber slobber the polls and their nutty fan base heaps on them leads them down the road to more losses. As we know, losing can become habit forming regardless of your recent past.

Wouldn't have felt the need to post that line of B-slapping had it not been for their douche-nozzle posters on the FCS boards.

And, nice to see a poster from another team come here and act like a human. They are taking a hell of a lot of guff for the near loss to Dixie, and they ought to.

The true leaders of the conference are yet to be identified this year. Looks like a good opportunity for an up and coming program like ours to make some hay this year.

Putting a monkey bump on EWUs pointed heads will be a step in the right direction.

I want you to show me when has a Weber State fan come on here and been a complete jerk?

I've never seen a Weber fan be a complete jerk--or even a jerk at all. As far as I can tell, the only complete jerks in this conference hail from UM (home of the whining wannabes)

Yeah, we have had several Weber State folks on this board and they have all been pure class. If we can't win, I wish them the best of luck.

Clarification, where I said "FCS" boards, I meant other FCS boards. One reason this board has not attracted the more colorful posters from many schools in the conference is the lack of any kind of threat to lose to UNC.

As the season wears on, and the Bears pick up some more wins, I would expect that to change.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Back on topic, of course they are the team to beat. Montana is off to a horrible start, EWU is an unknown at this point, and the few that picked Montana State to be in the running have egg on their faces.

Just find it strange that an 0-2 team is getting all this love from the polls and posters. Yeah they played "up" and nearly won one of the games, but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, if not, UNC would be closely 50-50 over the past seasons. 8)

Well, as much I hate to admit it, I don't think you could say Montana is off to a horrible start. They are 2-0, and granted those wins didn't come against powerful teams. Yet, until any of the rest of us in the conference can prove otherwise, they are still the team to beat. I have seen them struggle in the past to get their seasons started, but they always seem to righten the ship and end up at top. As for Montana State, I wouldn't completely count us out yet. We, too, have always started slow and finish hard. But yes, we do not look like world beaters by any means right now. I am confident we will work some things out, and it will be a battle against you guys. UNC has kept making positive strides and you've always had our number. Good luck against EWU this weekend!
