WSU to NIT - @ San Diego State

Hey folks - went to to the game tonight and wanted to share my thoughts, for what it's worth...

Your team put forth a solid effort at times, but just couldn't adjust to the length and speed of the Aztec defense. I think I only saw a couple of uncontested threes by the Wildcats all night. There were a couple of flashes where Wildcat players made some simply GREAT plays - just not enough to compete with a determined Aztec team who played one of their most complete first halves of the whole season.

#33 (McCoy?) is a fantastic player and made an amazing reverse layup in the first half that got applauded by even the Aztec fans as it was just a great basketball play. I think he got frustrated, though, and tried a bit too hard at times. The Wildcats just didn't have an answer for our guards on the inside, and got worn down as Coach Fisher kept substituting fresh legs in to keep up the pressure defense.

Also, #31 made a great play where he slashed across the baseline, past two defenders and put down a really nice dunk. Lorrenzo Wade - one of our players - even gave him a high five and was laughing with him after that play as they came back down the court.

All in all, the Wildcats ran into a buzzsaw tonight and just never got their rhythm - but they definitely showed flashes of how good they can be - "scary good" per Steve Fisher. The Aztecs defense didn't let them get into the rhythm and that is about all she wrote. Congrats on a great season. It's too bad you drew a matchup with the Aztecs, because I think you could have beaten a number of other teams.

Hopefully those who made the trip will be able to spend a few days here in San Diego and make a good vacation of it.
