WSU vs BYU Tickets @ Vivint Smart Home Arena

I purchased two row 15 lower bowl tickets for $40 each off of a BYU fan. I really hope come to play and beat them on Saturday. I know it is not likely, but the whole scenario on this one ticks me off.
You're a better fan than I am. No way would I pay $40 to watch another Weber loss (and probable blow out) to an in-state team while being surrounded by Y fans. I may watch it on TV if I have nothing better to do.

This deal was inked 3 years ago. This is the last game of that contract.

TV Rights....

Byu got the Broadcast rights (without paying for them) to the 2012 game in Ogden!!! Weber was able to sell the rights to KJZZ last season.

So was it a better deal 3 years ago than it is today? My problem isn't really with deal itself, I know that we had to get it done to keep playing them (45k seems low). A little more balance with the ticket distribution would have been good. I have a feeling there will be a fair amount of tickets being sold outside the arena.

I disagree. BYU has no problem bringing in Mississippi Valley State rated 349 out of 351. It's all about the broadcast rights to the game. They play much worse games than Weber every year. They just don't have home and homes.

I should clarify. Dave Rose's statement was made after beating Weber in the Dee. I know that BYU is not on the same conference level as Utah, but, BYU (like Gonzaga) is considered by many to be a high major team. There is really no incentive for them to play at the Dee besides giving their fans in northern Utah a chance to see them as well as maintaining a rivalry (and we all know how important rivalries are when more money can be made elsewhere). All I am saying is that if this is how we have to get a home game with BYU, then I am all for it.

Pretty bad when the seat allocation negotiations are so bad that they don't even announce this Saturday's game last night. A game 35 minutes away that is suppose to be a neutral site, and WSU can't secure 1,000 quality tickets for Weber fans/ students who would like to attend a Saturday game in SL?

BYU has won 9 in a row at the Delta Center, last loss was to #9 Michigan St. in 2007.

I am going to give coach some credit. I think our current line up has a chance in this one. Cannon has the tenacity to keep up with Emory. Joel vs. Davis will be fun to watch. Baker and Gittens will have the tough task to guard Collinsworth, but it is a much better defensive combo than we have had the last two years. I will take Senglin over Fischer home or away. Braxton will be key tomorrow. Did anyone notice that one of the goals last night was to build Braxtons confidence in the post?

I do like our chances better this year than the past several years. Winning the Gulf Coast has given me some hope that this team can be pretty good.

I'm happy to take BYU's money and hopefully we can escape with a win. I am surprised they are even opening the upper deck... Saturday afternoon, early season, neutral site... I am expecting about 10,000 fans. People are still drunk on football this time of year.

Super lame that they are sticking Weber fans in the upper deck but what can you do... At least BYU still plays us!!! I have respect for USU and BYU for scheduling us year in and year out. Utah on the other hand would rather schedule cellar dweller big sky teams at home and ignore us. No respect for the Utes basketball program. I really wish everyone still participated in the "Old Oquirrh Bucket." Apart from March Madness, college basketball seems to be losing excitement and fans here locally.

I agree Geo...I can at least respect the Y and Aggies for keeping the traditional arrangement somewhat intact. If this is the only way Weber can get BYU to continue visiting the Dee, then we need to do it. Yes, it sucks, but like PA said, this is not the 70s or 90s anymore. Another way is to start beating BYU on a regular basis again. Make the games competitive! Rose has virtually owned Randy over the years. Weber should have beaten BYU in 2012, but Rose used a triangle and 2 zone that killed us. We were the far better team and lost. Rose is a good coach. I hate the Y, but lately, it has definitely been very one-sided.

It totally sucks, $$$/ESPN have completely destroyed college athletics. The NCAA is a paper lion that has no power and the haves are not interested in sharing anything with the have nots. We are stuck! So, if this keeps the Y happy and they will still come to Ogden every other or third year, then so be it. We will deal with it. I do like that Weber is getting some $$$ out of the deal. However, in the future we need to make a case for a truly "neutral" arrangement. If BYU wants to play a local school at the whatever they are calling it this decade arena, then that school needs to make sure it is a neutral game. That arena is closer to Weber State and Ogden than it is to Provo and BYU. Weber, with a little more planning and marketing, could probably fill up assigned sections. I didn't know anything about alumni until this weekend. I'm just happy someone finally told me that they had tickets. Until Sunday night, I had no clue.

Upper bowl only ticket option for Weber

"Paul Grua, Weber State athletics spokesman, said the school did receive a small allocation of tickets AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS OF The WILDCAT CLUB."

I realize we don't have many students attending anything beyond the classroom but say 1 wanted to attend this game. Can he or she?

I like the notable changes seen recently, however, byu has much more experience in playing in this and similar venues. I see the same old beat down of a somewhat starstruck WSU team. I give credit to Rahe for the long awaited changes he's pulled out of a hat but still don't buy that he is a competitor when it comes to in-state.

Isn't that par for the course and business as usual for Athletics/Marketing? I don't remember it being posted here and haven't seen a paper in a while but my boy (current student) came home a few nights ago asking if I was going to this game. I said no, I can't afford or handle watching Weber losing another in-state game. He said there is a $20 deal for a bus ride, lunch(or something), and a ticket. Sounded like a bargain until I thought about watching it on the video screens in the upper bowl, and listing to the home crowd byu fans. Still, I would think-- although I don't know why-- that kind of promotion would actually be promoted and advertised if nothing else than to garner some support for the team and make it look on TV like there are actually Weber fans out there.

Id go if they gave the students even one section in the lower bowl.
I have a better chance of being heard yelling at my tv than I do from the upper bowl at vivint.. :wall:

Probably wont be seeing Emery after that shot he landed on Taylor last night.

why do we even bother to continue playing byu?

this is such an easy argument to end the "rivalry".

1. we now get less home games vs byu either in the short term or foreseeable future adding in these neutral slc games.

2. this is not a neutral site game. standard-examiner article 2 days ago said no lower bowl tkts will be available for WSU. A small allotment in an upperdeck section was provided to the Wclub members.

3. in 2016-17 we wont have byu, utah or usu in ogden. our biggest ooc home game would be denver or a non d1. you have to wonder if the last yr we didnt have at least 1 of the 3 instate teams in ogden must have been 1970 excluding the yr or 2 all the instate teams played at the delta center or salt palace.

4. there is no tradition left in college sports so i dont care if we stop playing a team that rahe is 0-10 against. i have a hard time respecting a college that appears to have very little respect for wsu. they don't even allow us a single lower bowl tkt for a single student.

5. our ooc schedule has no impact on our post season whether is it ncaa tourney or the church basketball invite. we could stop playing byu and usu and play 14 home games vs non d1's. that would give us 23 home games and 23 home wins. we would head to the big sky tourney at home or in reno with 27-28 wins if we can go 50-50 on the road in big sky.

6. wsu is so proud and excited that byu, the best bball program in america will still play us. how can we be so lucky? i feel bad for uvu. we will play them anywhere under any circumstances byu chooses. wouldnt it be cool if we could play the game in provo every year? what an opportunity it would be for our fans and players to get to be in the marriott center! i think wsu really would do it even for $0 guaranteed payout. :thumb:

7. it doesnt make sense why wsu would have interest in this neutral site game this weekend...if we consider ourselves a real college that is.

8. what is in it for wsu to be in this slc game? from byu point of view its a win regardless of location. so it must be about making extra money. now doing this against usu like they do makes sense, u can avoid logan more.
