From Brett Kahn of The Sports Network:
"Idaho State (0-2, 0-0) at No. 13 Weber State (0-2, 0-0) 8:05 p.m.
Weber State should be glad to play its first FCS opponent of the season. Especially, against an Idaho State squad that has lost 15 of its past 16 games and that the Wildcats have beaten in six straight seasons.
Weber State's offense is powered by two Payton Award candidates in quarterback Cameron Higgins (580 yards passing, five TDs, seven interceptions) and running back Trevyn Smith (170 yards rushing, one TD). Higgins has turned the ball over at a scary rate, but he does have All-American receiver Tim Toone (15 catches, 12.3 average, one TD) to haul in passes in traffic.
Buchanan Award nominee Josh Morris is a shutdown cornerback for Weber State. Senior safety Jordan Brown (16 tackles, one interception) has emerged this season. Defensive end Kevin Linehan (12 tackles, two tackles for loss) also adds to the unit.
Idaho State is trying to emerge from the Big Sky basement, but hasn't shown much improvement in two FBS money games.
The offense has put up just three points against Arizona State and Oklahoma, getting blown out in each game. Junior Kyle Blum (76 yards passing, 39% completion rate) is in his first season as the starting quarterback, and hasn't gained much confidence playing against two solid FBS squads.
Running backs Ben Laporta and veteran Clint Knickrehm split time in the backfield, but neither have been able to gain momentum this season.
A Bengals' defense that hasn't allowed less than 30 points since 2005 is paced by young linebacker A.J. Storms (17 tackles, three tackles for loss), strong safety Dustin Tew (15 tackles, one sack), freshman cornerback Phillip Pleasant (13 tackles, one interception) and free safety Chris Holmesly (13 tackles, one pass breakup)
WEBER STATE 55, IDAHO STATE 21"
Is that true, that Idaho State hasn't allowed less than 30 points since 2005? Holy Crap! Now that's a tradition not to be proud of. Try mixing in some NAIA or Division III opponents. Or better yet, drop down to a division you can compete in.
