Wulff Fired

Looks like Mike Leach is the new coach taking Wulff's place....good hire.

With Mike Leach as the HC, our defense better get their track shoes on when we play them next season. His teams are known to put up a massive amount of points.

Eastern did alright the last time they played Mike LEach at Texas Tech. And his squad was stacked that year (Crabtree, et al).

No matter who the new coach is WSU will make lots of mistakes on Def. and Off. which we will be able to take advantage. From the Eagle's prospective this gives us the best chance to be two and 0 going into our bye week which is way to early but is before the Montana game. Two and 0 with Montana on the RED Turf.

Eastern doesn't play Montana until week #5... but it is presently the first home game. Hopefully the Idaho game will get scratched in favor of something better. At present, going the first four weeks without a home game... and playing two FBS teams including one BCS team on the road in that span... looks to be an even worse scheduling error than we had in 2011.

Fro the life of me, I can't figure out how it makes sense to avoid playing at home until midway in the season. We always draw well in September, especially when compared to November, and it gets the team in Cheney during the early season buzz. Again, if Eastern goes out and loses a couple in the span-- or God forbid, three--- the bloom is off the rose before you ever step foot on home turf.

From a discussion on CS.com, Liberty has an open week on the 15th. They draw really well, so getting them to agree to the back end of a home and home would probably be difficult. If given the choice, would you rather play Idaho or Liberty next year?

Maybe if Sumlin is lucky enough to move to a better program, Baldwin will be consider for this job. We know he likes Texas! ;)

If we could get Liberty home/home v. Idaho only on the road, it's a no-brainer.

Of course, we could have had Mississippi Valley State at home instead of South Dakota on the road this year and made the playoffs... both had that date open.

Again, this goes back to the philosophy that it makes no sense to schedule anyone for one road game unless they are a bigtime program willing to pay a lot of bucks. Just to schedule a game is a bad reason.

If we can schedule the liberty home and home, that needs to be done, and the idaho game should be dropped. Just my opinion.

Bear in mind this is all speculation by people who don't know what the hell is going on.

I know, I guess it was just wishful thinking...

With the struggles they had filling the schedule last year and adding S. Dakota late, maybe they could leave the eastern fan forum one open slot a year and let us decide who to schedule...lol

I agree, I think it would be a longshot for us to schedule Liberty.. aren't they in Virginia?

That said, I wouldv'e thought it to be equally long odds that we wouldn't play home games until week #4 and week #5 in back to back seasons. This is especially true since it worked out so miserably the first time, you would've thought there'd be no way in hell we'd try it again.

I don't fear playing Idaho or Wazzu, and it's probably better to play WSU now before they feel the full benefits of Mike Leach. But playing both in the same season, let alone back to back weekends? Bad, bad, bad...

Everyone stating the Griz have now scheduled Liberty next year for their open date...

Good move by them.

At present, Eastern doesn't have any open dates on their schedule... it is a full 11 games. The big problem is that 2 of those 3 games are one-off road games. The Idaho game isn't just a one-off road game, but a one-off raod game for next to no money.

I know I harp on it a lot, but our schedules just kill us. We avoid home games like the plague and always want to schedule ourselves into tougher-than-necessary situations. For all practical purposes, if the schedule remains the same, Idaho becomes essentially a must-win.

It would be hard to conceive of Eastern beating WSU, and losing to Idaho would likely make us 0-2 going into a bye week with no momentum and a third road game with a decent Weber State team. That very easily compounds to 0-3 and a home game in week #5 against the Griz. You simply don't go out and beat good teams without confidence or momentum... you could see that when we played a horrible game at Missoula earlier this year.
