Xavier Musketeers

So happy and proud of our team this year!

Looking forward to a great game vs. Xavier. Not expecting a win but would like to see us be competitive. If we could keep within 10, I'll be happy. For BSC schools, winning the conference and getting to the NCAA tourney is the prize at the end of the road. We have accomplished that and the rest is extra.

I'm excited at the time the game is being played as well. Primetime Friday night on national tv! This will be the largest audience Weber has had in years, hopefully we don't embarrass ourselves.

I love Weber more than anyone but I don't think we really have much of a chance in this game. Xavier plays in a big boy league.

Go Weber!!!

I am actually surprised that the spread for this game right now is only 13 in favor of Xavier (pronounced I believe ZAVIER, not eggs-avier, Xavier fans correct me if Im wrong).

All I want for this Wildcat team is to make a respectable showing, it will be tough, but this team is resilient (BSCT is proof of that) and this team will fight to the end.

I'm proud of Weber and what this young team accomplished together.

I got my Wildcat flag flying alongside Old Glory on the flag pole right now, GO WEBER, Weber State, Weber State, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT

This is an exciting time!! Yes, Weber losses Joel this year, but we have a lot to look forward to. I'm excited about the future. No matter, I am equally excited about Friday's game against Xavier. Personally, I hate the match up. I think the game against Arizona two years ago was a better match up for the Cats than this game is, but anything is possible. I wouldn't count the Cats out of contention. I know we have the potential to put a scare into any team. Now...as long as we can keep the TOs down, rebound at a high rate, and move the ball, I'm thinking we could end up having a nice evening. If Xavier wins, I will be pulling for them to do well. The more competitive our game, and the further they go, the better it makes the Cats look.

I do have to wax quixotic for a bit though...if the Cats didn't drop a couple of WTF games this season (losses to UVU and Denver), took care of business against USU and didn't miss all the freebies against Idaho...imagine what seed we might have ended up with. I was really hoping for a game against the Utes in Denver. I would love nothing more than to beat them. We all know that Y and Aggie fans would be pulling for the Cats too. What if?? I hope Randy realizes that to get a better seed, we need to take care of business earlier in the season.

Last thought...Wow, the NCAA sure did give mid-majors the bird with this bracket. Too many P5 teams, as usual. They get rewarded for playing, on average, 20 home game a season and many don't hit the road till the conference season. That is wrong!! Nothing will change till Mid-Majors give the P5's the bird.

Like others, I'm not even remotely expecting a W but am hopeful Weber can put up a fight. With it being primetime it would be nice to not get run out of the arena but it doesn't look like Weber's strengths and weaknesses match-up well with what looks to be a very solid Xavier team. Still, hoping for the best.

I agree winning the BSC and tournament is a nice prize but they need to get to a point where they are taking "the next step," where they don't lose games they shouldn't (i.e. USU, UVU, DU, even let BYU off the ropes) and they aren't automatically expected to lose as "extra" and can get a better seed.

YES ! Besides some schools "pulling down" the BSC in basketball...Weber State needs to do some things itself to improve the BSC rankings.

Interesting that the MW. WCC, etc. only got 1 team into the NCAA. The P5 biggies hogged up 7 teams each (except the SEC I believe). It is getting unbalanced with money, power and greed!

ESPN has us as the 15 seed most likely to pull off an upset with a 6% chance.

It would be beautiful to pull off the upset. I think, even though Xavier has less notoriety than UNC overall, that this would be a bigger upset than 98.

Is it possible? Sure thing...everyone is giving us a whooping 6% chance!!

So, this might be complete delusion on my part, but the more I look at their stats the little more hopeful I am. IF, and that is a huge IF, the Cats can play a clean game, without TOs, play with defensive urgency, and hit a high percentage of their 3s...they could pull off the upset. I think Xavier isn't realizing that we are a very talented team. Still having issues meshing and being consistent, but deep and talented. We have 10 guys who can play. We aren't dependent just on our guards, but are skilled in the post. Bolomboy is an NBAesque player and Jeremy is a guy who can carry a team on his back with his shooting. I wouldn't count us out automatically. There is a lot of parity in DI right now.

I think the 3 keys to the game on offense is penetration, quick ball movement, and Rashid Gittens. The Xavier posted said they got beat from shots in the corners and Rashid is most consistent from there. Plus if they close out on him he is by far our fastest player and can get to the rim.
On defense I don't think we can match up man to man so we need to rotate between that and 2-3, 1-3-1. And cross our fingers!

So lets talk Xavier...

They have 7 guys who average 19+ mins per game. 6 of those players average 9.4+ a game (wow). Three of the seven average over 6 rebounds a game. They lost at home once and on the road 3 times, as well as a loss at the Big East Tourney to Seton Hall. They average 81ppg, 16asp, and 41rpg...really solid offensively.

Todays presser.

I would have sure liked to hear what our team had to say. I like their coach. He is a straight shooter that doesn't beat around the bush. I liked his remark about that there was not a comparable player to Joel in the Big East. I also like when he told the beat reporter that her headline sucked. I wish Garside would give Randy a reason to call him out sometimes.

First day's madness so far...got to love the Yale over Baylor 79-75 & Little Rock over Purdue 85-83 OT results!! Two 12 seeds beating 5 seeds. GO MID/LOW--MAJORS!!

Ton's of great articles on the Wildcats, I am excited to see how tonight's game goes. Come on Wildcats let's make it happen again.

2nd day madness so far, Middle Tennessee (15) over Michigan St (2)...there it is a 15 over a 2 seed...will Weber St follow thru with another?!! :yikes:

Of interest, Arizona (6) lost to Wichita St & Gonzaga beats Seton Hall to match up with Utah.

Let's go Cats!! Lets pull the biggest upset of the week!! Go get a win in St. Louis!

I think Arizona lost to VCU...no matter, good thing the PAC-12 got 7? teams into the tournament. Kinda crap that the other Western Conferences, together, only had 4 teams total.
