Xmas Gift Question

Okay..this is off-topic, but this seems to be the most active forum. I bought my younger son Davis golf head covers, and was trying to get a Sac State set for my older son. Bookstore doesn't offer them (online) and the place i ordered them from online came back with a 'out of stock' message.

Do you guys have any ideas of where to look? Anybody here have a set, or have seen them on sale anywhere?

Thanks in advance for any information.

When you go out to play this pre-causeway golf classic, does the Davis son instead choose to study the theory of golf, ball flight trajectory calculations and the surrounding wildlife? Whereas the Sac State son actually took lessons, practiced swinging a real golf club, and became a good player?

Just messing with you Dr. Mike!

good one! its even worse than you think, Kadezzy. Son #2 was a physics major (PhD candidate at Cal) and pops has his PhD in physics....so, we're all screwed up!

So is the rule to get the PhD at the mother-ship Cal that you have to get the undergrad at the farm extension first? :P

Just kidding. I had to go through a couple of physics classes on my way to my degree. I can’t imagine taking nothing but physics classes so hats off to you and your son. Those two physics classes combined with a 5 unit chemistry class (3 hours of lecture per week and a 3 hour lab that meet twice a week) were the weeder courses used to thin the herd. Couple that with the calculus classes that were also required and it gets pretty intense. Hell, thinking back on it now, there is no way I get through that without the steady dose of Jack, Jose’, and drunken sex found in the dorms.

Oh and by the way try calling the bookstore on campus. They have tons of stuff so they might have some of what you are looking for. Maybe they can ship it to you.

Thanks, SD...i thought about calling the bookstore on Monday. the site that Stung posted was the one I ordered from -> they said their vendor was sold out, so maybe there is a chance the bookstore stocks them. if they don't, they should...really good gift idea.

okay...talked to the bookstore and they do NOT carry head covers. but, they carry golf towels, golf balls, and pivot fixers. so, that's not bad. looks like I'll be making a visit to the campus, since they don't have them online.

Misson Semi-Accomplished. On the way down from Reno, we detoured over to Sac State to run into the bookstore to pick up a logo golf towel, logo Top Flight balls, and a nice shirt. Not quite the same as the club covers, but, pretty nice.

I haven't been on campus in a few years (son graduated in 2008, so it was a year or so before that). WOW..things look really nice. Some of the new buildings (bookstore isn't exactly new, but, newish) look really sharp. It was a great day up in Sac, and walking around campus was a nice treat...well worth the detour, and makes me happy to be sending those annual donations up your way since graduation. I tell people with high school kids that Sac would be my top choice for a state university. the education experience is great, and its a really good place to send your child; today's visit cemented it.

there..that's the 'nice post' to deflect from the nasty coaching firing posts! so, if you're on campus the next couple days, take a look around and appreciate the campus!

I try to tell alumni who haven't been to Sac State in while to check it out...the school has really done a lot to improve the facilities over the last five years. It's a nice little campus tucked in between the railroad and river.

Happy Holidays to you and your family!

Thanks, Phantom.....

I remember taking my son up there as a senior in high school for a tour, and really liked the feel of the campus. For a business degree, I knew Sac would be a good choice. I was very happy that he went there...its worked very well for him.

And, I agree....it would be a great thing for the alumni group to promote homecoming as a time for alums to come back and tour the campus. It still has that feel of a small campus, but, the new buildings give it a modern look.

Dr. Mike, it really is a beautiful campus when the leaves turn. Glad you were able to get the stuff you needed. As much as I feel for Coach O, and it really sucks, Im more concerned about men's hoops at LMU tonight. All I know is, the sun will rise again tomorrow, albeit with clouds hiding it.

Yeah I got to walk around the campus when I was up there for the Homecoming game. I was there when Prez Gonzo had a lot of that stuff built. The campus was essentially one giant construction site for over 4 years. As much as we knock Gonzo on these boards for not following through on some KEY athletic facility plans, he has done a tremendous job of putting his thumb print on the campus.

Also, the one day only annual Christmas sale at the bookstore is this Thursday, Dec 9th. It's a great sale with tons of stuff marked way down. I go every year. The store closes at 7pm.
