The prevailing idea is that there will be some type of season. How many games and will fans be able to attend are still yet to be answered.
Portland State University has put the return of athletes on hold until Multnomah County enters Phase 1 of reopening.
“We’re hoping for July 1. We’ll phase football players in first. Local players then players from out of town," said athletic director Valerie Cleary.

Canzano has been going back and forth. Actually, I now how something reported that says what PSU is planning on doing so I am actually encouraged.
I don't see how any school can accurately predicted whether football will or won't be played until the start of fall camp in August. Until then, everything is speculation.
If I had to predict right now, I say the season is played with no fans in the stands. Subject to change, of course.
Right now, MLS and NBA are “going into the bubble” in Orlando. There’s already dozens of positive tests between them, there are rumors of all sorts of “bubble failures,” Orlando is right in the middle of the worst growth of the virus in these fine United States, and every indication is that they’re going to try to soldier ahead. Hell no they shouldn’t. Deaths are one thing; it’s lungs getting scarred or losing capacity that scares me, never mind that soccer is probably a bit safer being outside and players aren’t 100% in each other’s faces.
I’d hate to be on the OL or DL right now. I’d hate to have a coach ask me what flavor of gum the opponent is chewing while indoors in a more confined space than usual. I’d hate to be getting served by people who generally don’t have a choice, aren’t part of a bubble (which is how thin the “Orlando bubble”- or as my wife puts it, the Florida Hostage Situation- really is).

Most of the contracts are guaranteed. Viks get the money regardless if the games are played or not.
Rumor is that, instead of buying out the games, the Pac-12 is going to see about pushing the non-conference games to next year. If all the conferences (FBS and FCS) play just a conference schedule this year, it should be easy to move the games back a year.

I had my spit take at “it should be easy” there. Thing is, you can already see the wheels turning re: how Ohio State will screw over Oregon, so who knows, but Oregon will obviously respond by screwing over someone else. It is the way of things, and it damn well won’t be easy.

Ducks will screw over NDSU. Bison fans (who are more arrogant that Griz fans but have a right to be) will claim the Ducks are scared of them but that is just how it is.

No, no, not quite that simple. There will be lawyers.
My understanding is that the Power 5 conferences will claim "force majeure" and thereby nullify the "guaranteed" contracts. Sure, we *could* sue to try and enforce them, but to do so would virtually assure that no FBS school would ever schedule with us again. No, this now looks as if there will NOT be a football season for us... or just about anybody else at the FCS level.
On to basketball I guess, although without the funding from football, that too looks grim.

"Force majeure"? Is that like "act of God"? Maybe "Wrath of God" is more like it.
The NAIA's Frontier Conference, which includes SOU and EOU, announced the end of June that they are going to play a conference only schedule this year. With the "small boys" going that route, and now the "big boys" doing the same, one has to think the Big Sky will try the same.
As far as basketball, that isn't looking much better. I'm hearing starting date in January with no conference games. Only regional games that teams can bus to (the mobile bubble). And no fans.

What I am hearing today is that some FCS schools are looking into this. The logic being that, in this age where you are trying to protect the college athlete from being exposed to this virus, how can the schools justify dropping the regional FCS/FBS games and send the teams into the middle of the hardest hit areas (Oregon State dropping PSU to go to Arizona State. South Carolina dropping Furman to go to Florida. Iowa dropping Northern Iowa to go to Rutgers. Virginia Tech dropping JMU to go to Florida State).
Needless to say, most FCS teams survive on these money games, and survival takes on a new look when you think you have nothing to lose. There is no risk of the FBS not scheduling us if, because we lost the guaranteed money, we aren't playing in the future anyway.

Recall mentioning how some sports were going to convert from conference schedules to tighter regional schedules. That’s not really been announced yet, but I hear more rumors of that... and the Colonial has opened the door to that possibility... perhaps even for football.
