Yet another Sirens blowout....

The Sacramento Sirens overcame initial difficulties coming off a bye week to extend the Modesto Maniax' scoring drought with a 55-0 drubbing in Modesto.

Sirens starting quarterback Chantelle Powers was lifted early in the first quarter following an interception in the end zone. It was later revealed that Powers was injured on the play and was removed as a precautionary measure. She is expected to play next week. Following an abysmal performance in relief two weeks ago, rookie backup Trudy Wolfe played an admirable game, tossing a 40-yard scoring strike to rookie wide receiver Brittany Ramos. Emergency quarterback Amy Williams returned to offense from her normal strong safety spot near the end of the game, handing off once for a late touchdown to close the scoring.

Early on, the Maniax defense came up huge, forcing a Powers fumble on an option pitch. However, other than the drive following Powers' interception, the Maniax offense could not sustain a drive. Williams started the Sirens' interception spree on after the Maniax drove deep into Sirens' territory, and was denied a pick six only by a bogus official calling her out of bounds along the way. That would have been the first of THREE interceptions returned for touchdowns, as safety Denise Grandison and cornerback/wingback Ashlee Sharp both ended up in the end zone after taking Maniax passes.

Special teams turned out to be a big factor as well. Wingback/punt returner Julie Wicher-Shockley, a member of Team USA, took her first punt of the year back to the house. (Shockley pointed to Super Hornet afterward. LOL.)

In other Tier I Pacific West Division action, the Tier II Bay Area Bandits continued their winning ways by taking down the LA Amazons 33-22, the Portland Shockwave defeated the hapless Seattle Majestics 20-14, and the California Quake (of Long Beach) and SoCal Scorpions were both off. In games over in the highly competitive Tier I Midwest Division, the undefeated Chicago Force trounced the Tier II Wisconsin Wolves 49-0, the Kansas City Tribe extended their shutout streak to two games by beating the Minnesota Vixen 80-0, the Dallas Diamonds won by forfeit over the H-Town Cyclones, and the Houston Energy shut out the Louisiana Fuel 30-0.

The standings are kinda goofy as the IWFL goes strictly off of this complicated Massey Rating that I as a math major cannot for the life of me figure out. It's not an issue in the Midwest and Northeast Divsions, but is wreaking havoc in the Pacific West and Southeast Divisions. But based on Massey Rating, if the season were to end today, the Sirens would take the Western Conference #1 seed. Keep that in mind as you observe the standings:
