For those who weren't at the Southern Oregon game, Zach hit field goals from 46 and 52. He miss one from 42, but from where I was sitting that one look good also. The most impressive part of this feat was he look like he was making an extra point. Zach is just such a natural kicker, he made these long FG's look easy. Maybe someone else can describe it better than me.

I would try to describe it, but since I stood up and clapped for about 45 seconds on the missed 42 yard kick, I'll just keep my mouth shut. I swear that field goal looked like it was thru the uprights.

Brown Leads Nation In Field Goals Made

http://www.goviks.com/news/2011/11/13/FB_1113112919.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

After kicking three important second-half field goals and breaking his own season record, Portland State kicker Zach Brown now is tied for the national lead for field goals made with 20. Brown made all three field goals, including a 51-yarder, in the Vikings' 23-17 win at Northern Colorado on Saturday. That improved his season total to 20, breaking the school record of 18 he set each of the last two seasons.

Brown, a junior from McNary (OR) High School, is tied with Cameron Yaw of Samford, who has made 20-25 this season through 10 games. Brown has made 20-23, with his only misses from 46 yards or longer. Brown is also 15th in the nation in scoring with an average of 8.6 points per game.

With 56 career field goals, Brown also holds that Portland State record. He has made six career field goals from 50 yards or longer, also a school record; and his .757 conversion percentage (56-74) is a school record.

Speaking of records, Viking quarterback Connor Kavanaugh broke another Big Sky record for quarterback rushing. He improved to 1,932 career rushing yards, breaking the old mark of 1,826 quarterback rushing yards by Ken Hobart of Idaho (1980-83). Kavanaugh's season total of 1,028 yards is a Big Sky and PSU record for quarterback rushing. He has become the 10th Viking in history to reach 1,000 rushing yards. The feat has been accomplished 17 times in PSU history.

With 102.8 yards per game, Kavanaugh ranks third in the Big Sky Conference and 20th in the nation.

Portland State (7-3/5-2) hosts its regular season finale this Saturday at JELD-WEN Field. The Vikings play Weber State (4-6/4-3) in a 1:05 p.m. game. If PSU can win it would be under consideration for an NCAA Division I at-large playoff berth.

THE NCAA PLAYOFFS
The 20-team NCAA playoffs begin on Nov. 26. Team selections will be announced on Nov. 20 at 7 a.m. PT. The Big Sky Champion receives an automatic berth. Both Montana State and Montana, currently ranked in the top 10, are virtual locks to play in the postseason.

The first round of games takes place on Nov. 26 among the lowest eight seeded teams. Those winners would advance to the round of 16 on Dec. 3.

A clutch player. An emotional leader. Ice in his veins when he needs it. A winner on the field and in the arena of life. A trend setter. A tradition setter.

So good to have him on the team. May his senior year be his best, his "audition" for his professional playing career,

Any scoop on the extent of Brown's injury? I thought I read that it was just a bruise, but I guess he was still on crutches at practice today.

Oregonlive said "Senior kicker Zach Brown is out with a knee injury sustained in Week 1."

Strange that a first team All-American can be injured and there is nothing written about what exactly the injury is or how bad. Three weeks later and I still have no idea if he's day to day or way worse.
