.... Deadder also 1st team!

Defending Division I national champion Eastern Washington dominated the Big Sky Conference Preseason All-Conference Team, and Montana State’s DeNarius McGhee and Sacramento State defensive Zack Nash garnered individual preseason awards.

McGhee, a sophomore quarterback from Euless, Texas, was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Nash, a senior defensive end from Vacaville, Calif., was tabbed the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Eastern Washington placed eight members on the 29-player team, which was voted by a select group of media and sports information directors. Six players were named on all 17 ballots, while 17 of the 29 players earned First Team All-Conference honors in 2010.

Beau Baldwin’s Eagles capped a 13-2 season beating Delaware 20-19 in the 2010 Division I National Championship game. EWU should be in the hunt again with the talent returning on both sides of the ball.

Eagle junior wide receiver Brandon Kaufman and senior defensive tackle Renard Williams were both unanimous selections to the team. They are joined on the squad by Eagle teammates Chris Powers (center), Gabe Jackson (offensive tackle), Zach Johnson (linebacker), Matt Johnson (safety), Jeff Minnerly (safety) and special teams star Darriell Beaumonte.

Nash, Northern Arizona defensive end Isaac Bond, Weber State offensive guard J.C. Oram and Idaho State return man Tavoy Moore were the other unanimous selections.

Nash, a 6-foot-3, 265-pounder, led the Big Sky with 13 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss last season. He also forced a league-high six fumbles.

McGhee was named the Co-Big Sky Conference MVP and the Newcomer of the Year in 2010 after throwing for 3,163 yards with 23 touchdowns and just six interceptions.

Northern Arizona placed five players on the squad. Joining Bond are running back Zach Bauman, fullback Vinnie Palucci, wide receiver Austin Shanks, and offensive tackle Alex Mott.

Four Montana Grizzlies were selected, including All-American cornerback Trumaine Johnson. Tight end Greg Hardy, defensive tackle Bryan Waldhauser and linebacker Caleb McSurdy were the others.

Montana State kicker Jason Cunningham, Sacramento State wide receiver Chase Deadder, Portland State running back Cory McCaffrey and Weber State offensive linemen J.C. Oram and Caleb Turner rounded out the offense.

Idaho State All-American linebacker A.J. Storms and Bengal All-American punter David Harrington were named to the defense, along with Weber State linebacker Nick Webb, and Portland State cornerback DeShawn Shead, who is expected to move to safety this season.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER of the Year – DeNarius McGhee, So., QB, Montana State
DEFENSIVE PLAYER of the Year – Zack Nash, Sr., DE, Sacramento State
