Re: Preseason camp

Breaking in players to the 4-3 (three linesmen) scheme is one of our challenges this year. I notice that the Southern Illinois Salujis are doing the same thing. I wonder how many other FCS teams are making the move or are already playing 4-3? This may not be such an innovation after all.

Re: Preseason camp

We heard pretty much all positive up until yesterday from Nathan and Jim. Yesterday's report was what I'd expect from a team with a lot of freshmen. How will they react to Glanville's tongue-lashing? That's the question. Pull themselves together, try harder? Or sullenly mope? That will say a lot abo...

Re: Western Oregon @ Portland State - GTS

No help from the web re offense. They have TEs, and much of their offense last year came on passes. Their QB graduated, however, as did most of their OL same as us. We're in better shape for QBs though. For what it's worth, they brought in 25 new bodies this year. Amongst the new bodies are a couple...

Re: Preseason camp

Agreed, Marty. Sounds like an old injury liable to turn chronic for the rest of his life. Not worth it. On another note, it's nice to see the O line shape up. We won't see the long run of sacks we saw last year, one hopes. Now for the D line and backfield. I see Montana's going through a lot of the ...

Re: Traitor

He was a first year coach for a first year program - he recruited all the players for this last year, all of them. As freshmen they didn't do all that badly. That he jumped ship after a year probably only means that PSU is paying him a very low salary, and Montana can afford a decent one. And face i...

Re: Who will start at QB this year?

I agree. Both Howland and Hubel can do a competent job with the Run and Shoot - Hubel, at least, proved it last year. But WRs?! I counted 18 on the roster. Just counting them would put Davis to sleep. Or leave him sleepless. All new. I've given up figuring this - che sera sera. We'll just have to se...

Re: Glanville Cleans House,

The disgruntled posters on this subject are new to the list - probably either unhappy scholarship students or their friends. Or - perish the thought - troublemakers. If they go away eventually, it's the latter. If they stay and hack away, we've got a problem. Me, I've said all there is to say on the...

Re: Glanville Cleans House,

Who's at fault? Nobody, Bak. It's a coach doing what coaches do all over the land, with more or less (mostly less) publicity. When new management comes into a company heads usually roll. Beyond that, we take pride in moving a couple every year to the NFL, right? We're the NFL's minor league. In the ...

Re: Glanville Cleans House,

Looks like none are part of the OL, fortunately. We've got six upperclassmen there, and nine freshmen. Admittedly two of the freshmen are RSs, but they haven't played in any games. A couple injuries would bring those freshmen in in a hurry. How are we going to do against a team that blitzes a lot?

Re: Next Seasons Schedule

I think the GAS still has some lustre, though big names have fallen off the last couple years. We can't expect the Top of the World every year - at least, until we win the Big Sky again this year. It'll get progressively easier.

I would never have guessed we drew so well with Northern Alabama, Mankato State or Texas Kingsville. Were those playoffs? And, will we see OSU up here again in my lifetime?!

Re: Who will start next season?

Jones is listed at 6'7" on the roster - pretty small for a center. Visockis may work his way on to the team, but hard to say how early in the season. Even harder to see Conrad playing this season, but wonders have happened. As last year showed (both the way we played and the way Kansas played) teamw...

Re: Western Oregon @ Portland State - GTS

Marty's sensible. WOU is returning nearly the whole team from last year, as I remember - and they had a good season last year. I'd be happy with a 36-17 win.

I figure we'll be listed in the "others" ranks by the time the season's over. I'd be mighty disappointed if we weren't.

Re: Recruiting For Next Year

I agree, it's confusing. But looking through the articles I'm not so anxious to see him coming, if he is. Sound like a lumbering monster, not able to keep up with our team. Even if he is down to the 270 claimed in one of the articles.

Re: Academic Progress Rates (APRs)

jjd, you're right about some of the coaches keeping close attention to GPAs. I hope Bone's one of them, though I'm sure what little staff we have tries to keep track of all the teams. I see precious few of them in my classes, but when I do have them, I receive at least two form queries from Athletic...

Re: Spring Football '08 Thread

Why are we rebuilding? Sure, Walsh had a winning program ... but it was let's say tedious. And very conservative. And we didn't win the conference. And because it was boring, fans didn't come. So we brought in Glanville and Mouse last year to install a radically different program - 4-3 defense and r...

Re: Spring Football '08 Thread

That's some mis-speak. Does he need a new mind-set? "Say "Division I" ten times!" One thing sure; we know the difference between high expectations and low expectations this time around, and Jerry's not making the mistake of feeding the former. Next week reality will begin to set in. A little, anyway...
