this sounds like a great idea. I would probably would ask them to idle their phones while down there. Just ask them to make a commitment for three days to nothing but the football team. One other side benefit, if it's really hot out they will likely not have to battle the heat.

I have a feeling the trip to the beach won't be a trip to the beach. This is the year Barnum has been pointing to for the program to be relevant. There is going to be a lot of work to do to prepare for the season. I like the bonding experience but I don't think it is going to be all fun and games (maybe some but definitely not all).

I don't think it is going to be Bear Bryant's "Junction Boys", but if any of the players think it is going to be fun and relaxation may be disappointed.

According to Massey our Vikings should win 3 conference games: Southern Utah a 71% chance, Idaho 51%, and Northern Colorado 55%. His rating system, the Big Sky coaches and media polls, and Steve Pugh’s computer rating system have a common depressing theme. I do hope their time at the coast puts some pep into our "young" (again!!) team.

Alan, ever the pessimist.

I'll take 3-1 to start the season. Heck, Idaho State is going to be looking for QB and their first three games may not be ideal for that (Western Colorado, at Utah, at UNI). We could be 4-0 conference-wise heading to Flagstaff.

Yes I am pessimistic about the 2019 version of our Vikings. Why wouldn't I be?

In the last decade our Vikings have twice had a winning record in the Big Sky, twice. They went 5 and 3 in 2011 and 6 and 2 in 2015. Our overall conference record during the same period is 25 and 55 for winning percentage of just a shade under .313. A decade of futility. Can they turn it around in 2019? Of course, although the neither historical record nor the prognasticators offer much support, it is certainly possible. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

It would be nice for the University's new leader to see a winning football team when he/she peeks in to the Athletic Department.

If you recall, the so-called "experts" had us pegged at 10th in 2015. As recently as last year, the so-called experts had the Griz and Idaho picked as the teams to beat (and I for one took great delight in watching both fall flat on their faces). Confidence goes a long way in college football. When we won in Missoula last year, it put the program on a totally new trajectory for the season. This year, the toughest stretch is the last four games, but if we go 3-1 in the first half (and get a positive buzz going), those last four should be interesting in a positive way.

Be prepared to be "pleasantly surprised", my friend. The glass is half full.
