Seems to me like we hit California pretty hard and let the local FCS talent go elsewhere in the conference. Pretty interesting.

Easterling signs with PSU
Madras White Buffalos running back Treyvon Easterling signs with Portland State University

https://pamplinmedia.com/msp/132-sports ... s-with-psu

Senior Madras running back Treyvon Easterling has signed to play football at Portland State University Feb 5.

Easterling signed his letter of intent in front of the whole school during lunchtime, informing everyone that he will play division 1 football at PSU as a preferred walk-on.

"I thank God that everything worked out, everything that I prayed for and worked for worked out," Easterling said. "I knew in middle school I was pretty good at football. Every time I ran the ball, no one could take me down. I just continued to work hard, and in high school things got harder, but I kept working. I wasn't really sure, but always hoping to play at this level (D1). I prayed every night. I knew I could play college football, but the level was the only question in my head."

Easterling was deciding between Linfield and Portland State.

"I chose PSU because it was really nice," Easterling said. "I wanted to get out of Madras and into a city, be closer to family. It is a D1 school. They blew me away with everything."

He earned honorable mention as a 3A all-state running back for the White Buffalos to end his football career at Madras High. As a sophomore, Easterling earned 4A Tri-Valley Conference first-team honors as the starting running back for the Buffs. His junior season, Easterling split carries and earned second-team honors in the 3A Special District 1 Conference. Easterling finished his senior season with 3A SD-1 first-team honors and all-state honors.

Easterling had 177 carries for 927 yards, averaging 5.24 yards per carry and 103 yards per game. He also scored 14 touchdowns for the White Buffalos his senior year.

He was not only impressive on the football field but also in the classroom; he currently has a 3.96 GPA.

"I always told myself, 'You better work hard in the classroom and on the field,'" Easterling said. "It allows you to do more things, and it helped a lot because I was able to get scholarships because of my GPA and sports."

Easterling was a freshman when head coach Kurt Taylor took over the football program.

"He is just a good kid," Taylor said. "He leads our Fellowship of Christian Athletes club. Faith is a big part of his life and sets the tone for a lot of things he has done in his life. Even when he makes mistakes, he quickly changes paths and does what he needs to in order to get to where he wants to be. He is very goal-driven.

"He is the strongest kid that has been at this school, probably ever," Taylor said. "He holds all the records for our squats and deadlifts. He squats over 520 pounds and deadlifts just as much. It is pretty hard to tackle someone that can squat your body weight two or three times. Trey knows the game of football really well."

Portland State has its first home football game against Montana State on Saturday, Sept. 26.
