The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

There is no traction to be had.

Absolutely nothing has been physically done to improve other than to hire an unproven carnival hawking HC.

And someone who can navigate X and Facebook with a camera.

This is a disingenuous statement that overlooks the investment and efforts made by Dr. Wood and his team. No matter how pie in the sky the PAC pursuit was, there are tangible items that resulted from this campaign. Dr. Wood shot his shot to better the profile of this University. While he puts his foot in his mouth from time to time, I have no problem with the vision and the overall effort that was made.

As an outsider.....
The hubris and bluster of the Sac PR campaign results in a "serves them right" attitude from some when things don't go as Sac planned.

I'm not necessarily one of those people, because I want Sac to reach the FBS space so Davis can follow into it. But I can understand the push back and negative comments.

Sac does need a "win" at this point. I agree.
Getting to the season and winning a couple games can't happen fast enough.....

Far better to have a guy who's "doin to much" (as my teens say) than an AD sitting on their hands.

No one asked your fucking opinion douchebag. Get the fuck off this board.

The Wilton Rancheria Tribe that owns the Sacramento Republic have committed to pay 1.75 million to partner with the city towards construction of the Railyards Soccer Stadium. They are also Sac State Alums and supporters of our athletic program.

The Railyard Stadium construction is stalled by protests over building more affordable housing in the railyards. Why not reach out to the tribe and see if they would be interested in partnering with Sac State to build a stadium on campus for the Republic and Hornets to use?

Dr. Wood mentioned that the proposed stadium would be joint use football/soccer/rugby, could be a win for both sides. It always seemed kind of odd to build two new similar sized stadiums 6 miles apart, instead of one nice stadium that the whole community could use.

Yeah, we've discussed those options here quite a bit. I know a lot of folks here don't want Hornet Stadium to double as a professional soccer space, and I get that. I would be onboard with a public/private partnership if it helps get the ball rolling. The hesitancy seems to be on the Republic side, they want their own economic deal.

The facility would HAVE to be on campus. Some things to think about are the additional cost and wear and tear of natural grass. You would not be able to have Sprint Turf with all the football lines, logos, etc. The Republic would not go for that. Natural grass would be sweet, but a significant ongoing expense to maintain.

I agree with your perspective on the playing surface issues and there's another consideration regarding capacity. The soccer folks are looking at a 20K seat venue for their purposes and the football folks are thinking 30K+.
Thats a legitimate issue in regard to partnering.

Republic’s plan is to build to 12,500. There could be a plan for further expansion (and there’s ways to design a stadium that can be done incrementally),

The following things are happening on the soccer end of things:
- USL announced intent to begin a first division “Premier League”
- In March, USL owners voted to institute promotion and relegation beginning “2027-2028”
- This week, a piece claimed sources as saying US Soccer and USL were discussing changes to “Professional League Standards” that currently exist and are sometimes ignored by MLS (those standards actually require promotion and relegation, which is obviously news to MLS). Reduction of minimum stadium size for D-1 from 15K to 10-12K and reduction or redefinition of market size regulations are the main issues.

That these discussions are taking place indicate that US Soccer is likely to allow that Premier League. I could speculate on some reasons US Soccer might be taking shots across the bow of MLS, though the main issue could easily be anti-trust.

Another thing… notice how I wrote “2027-2028” for instituting pro/rel? There’s already a women’s USL Super League, it got granted first division status (despite NWSL already having that). They play a late July to end of May schedule with a winter break from mid-December to mid-February. The quote I used is how USL announced it, and yes, that’s some cute ambiguity. It’s possible USL is switching to a fall-spring schedule.

So I offer that the likelihood for partnership on a stadium has diminished significantly.

This is the single most in your face urgent item.
No new stadium or a half ass remodeling of the current temp stadium won't cut it.

An actual arena is 2nd in your face. Converting the Student Union into a makeshift bigger gym stopped the bleeding, but there is still stink.
While I understand your points. Until we see Mike Bibby / Shaq team on the courts playing
We won’t know if the facility can somehow become electric?

The upside is that the WELL facility will help bring more people to WATCh than we had previously. Those people working out will hear the fans cheering and start building more student interest.

Hoping this is a great “Stop Gap” for 5+ years while Football Stadium is complete. And our BB is getting great attendance dance to justify a NEW Arena.

If the 3500 seats are filled. Quality BB on the courts I imagine it will be a fun atmosphere.

Thank you for the welcome.

This stadium seems like a pipe dream unless it is funded. I think they said it was 90 million funded at one point? Where does the actual in-the-bank funding stand now to build an FBS level stadium?
ES2K - Our student body had a referendum to raise fees to sponsor FBS football. It started in 24’ season I believe so it has been compounding during this time to build a solid down payment.

That’s how I understood it explained in a simplistic format.

I think people will be impressed at the WELL stop gap solution. The running track around the top is being made into premium hospitality seating. the WELL will show much better on TV, even better than a place like St. Mary's because there should be some seating around the baselines too. The WELL with some G1C games mixed in should float us for 5 years and what hopefully ends up being a legit hoops facility.

I think there is a serious opportunity to blow out the side of the Well, and expand to 5000 seats+, as was originally intended in 2004. Yosemite hall could never accomplish that. You would move the southeast(?) out like 100 feet, change the current orientation of the court, and add even more stadium seating in what are currently the two baseline areas. You'd have to re-center the exiting seating. This would be the most cost-effective option, possibly built in a single offseason too! Close to parking, football stadium infrastructure, etc.

I'll be watching this closely... Will there be anything regarding litigation or facilities in this month's BOT meeting??? Fresno is making noise about a stadium now, soooo?

They post the topics 10 days before the hearing.

Fres Not has actual cracks and structural issues and they had their county tax proposal to fix it voted down by the locals.

Doesn't Yosemite have asbestos? Its accepted if undisturbed, but construction would crack open a hazmat scenario.
