Athletic Facilities

giphy.gif

Don't see how they do much with the site other than adding a field and maybe some temp bleachers in time for 2026 like Wood claims
Half assed just like the student voted for and approved 6,000 Event Center that was bait and switched. Actually, I am very happy the PAC/MWC told Wood/Orr to pound sand, we would have been the laughingstock FBS team with YMCA facilities and they saw through the BS screen.

Meh. Not a whole lot of detail other than some framework on an exclusive agreement to negotiate a potential deal to build something. I don't see anything getting done in time for the '26 season though. The grandstand is massive so there is potential to renovate it into something decent, however I'm struggling to see how the sight lines work out for football viewing. It's been quite a few years since I've been in the grandstand so maybe that's not an issue. The biggest hurdle, as with everything facilities related, is funding and I'm still struggling to see CSU green light bonding for this agreement/project.

Pros
  • Plenty of space in the grandstand to space out suites/VIP areas/lounges.
  • A nice venue at Cal Expo will appeal to the casual sports fans.
  • Better access off of Business 80 compared to campus off of Highway 50.
  • Plenty of space for expansion/other facilities.
  • Cal Expo/Sac State partnership should garner more opportunities for marketing/business engagement

Cons
  • Will the CSU approve bonds for an off campus venue?
  • Off campus will put a big damper on student attendance for games.
  • Tailgating likely gone
  • Athletic department will have to grow a pair and deal with off campus logistics
  • Seeing people foolishly claim students will walk along the American River Parkway to get to games

This is the type of swing where we could not have an athletic department in 10 years. This is going to be expensive, too far from campus, where we will have to work with cal expos vendors for concessions and not get a dime of it. I was excited to actually have some concessions that we could profit from.

Agreed. I don't think anyone should take the "FBS or Bust" moniker lightly.

Everything is negotiable, it's anyone's guess where the final percentages with CE lands for the various revenue streams associated with this possible agreement. We don't have serious concessions at HS now, so whatever percentage is negotiated with CE would be a gain. And with horseracing gone, current projected grandstand concessions monies for CE is $0. Seems like plenty of room to give by both entities.

I don't imagine that we are picking up that large a percentage from the food trucks at Hornet Stadium.
