24-32 Hornet loss. First thing is I hope that the injured CP player is ok. Word going around was that he couldn't move his arms. I hope this isn't true and he recovers.
The worst thing about this loss is that the Hornets played so horribly that they gave the game away against a bad opponent. Credit to Cal Poly for taking care of the ball and making a few plays when needed to hang on for the win. The turnovers and penalties cost the Hornets points, not going to beat many teams with that many mistakes.
Offensively the Hornet running game took care of business. Offensive line imposed their will on the Cal Poly front and the running backs made some strong runs. The passing game was another story. Truth be told, Williams has been chucking bad passes into coverage all season, it was only a matter of time until he got burned with his poor decision making. I wavering between thinking Rashada playing the rest of the way was the move, but Williams operates the running attack better. Unfortunately, Coach Marion kept calling pass plays to a struggling quarterback that cost the offense opportunities to put up points.
Defensively the Hornets gave up too many big plays in critical situations when stops were needed. Soft coverage on down and distance allowed CP to keep some drives alive and the Hornets weren't able to force any turnovers. The Hornet defense did allow the offense to have more than one drive in the 4th quarter so it's hard to pin this loss on this side of the ball.
I think this loss ends the season for the Hornets. I don't see why anyone should take this program seriously for the rest of the year. Can't lose to bad teams at home and expect people to care and I'm not seeing how this team pulls it together against the better teams on the schedule.
We'll see how the Hornets respond as they'll have 2 weeks to figure it out.
