Week 5 - #21/21 Sac State (2-2) vs Cow Poly (2-2) @ 6PM, Hornet Stadium!

And they looked gassed from the first series. Sometimes you can drive people so hard that quiet quit on you
I saw a team on Cal Poly’s sideline. On the Hornet sideline. I didn’t see a ton of energy or caring. I think Coach is losing them. And considering he suspended or booted the players he “lost” after week 2… we might have 60 players by the end of the year.

If this chaotic clown act continues we might worry about him NOT leaving!
Here’s a fun fact. Through five games.

Amount of times we’ve had the head coaches dumb motto on the helmet: 1

Amount of times we’ve had our current logo on the helmet: 0

Might as well just call the team Go Go. It’s all about coach.

I’ve been to close games, beatings, hell the Austin Peay game. For some reason, this one completely deflated me. Just excruciating to watch from all angles.

The bug is an official alternate logo and I think we had the S at SDSU. But yes, the Go Go slogan on the helmet was an awful idea.

24-32 Hornet loss. First thing is I hope that the injured CP player is ok. Word going around was that he couldn't move his arms. I hope this isn't true and he recovers.

The worst thing about this loss is that the Hornets played so horribly that they gave the game away against a bad opponent. Credit to Cal Poly for taking care of the ball and making a few plays when needed to hang on for the win. The turnovers and penalties cost the Hornets points, not going to beat many teams with that many mistakes.

Offensively the Hornet running game took care of business. Offensive line imposed their will on the Cal Poly front and the running backs made some strong runs. The passing game was another story. Truth be told, Williams has been chucking bad passes into coverage all season, it was only a matter of time until he got burned with his poor decision making. I wavering between thinking Rashada playing the rest of the way was the move, but Williams operates the running attack better. Unfortunately, Coach Marion kept calling pass plays to a struggling quarterback that cost the offense opportunities to put up points.

Defensively the Hornets gave up too many big plays in critical situations when stops were needed. Soft coverage on down and distance allowed CP to keep some drives alive and the Hornets weren't able to force any turnovers. The Hornet defense did allow the offense to have more than one drive in the 4th quarter so it's hard to pin this loss on this side of the ball.

I think this loss ends the season for the Hornets. I don't see why anyone should take this program seriously for the rest of the year. Can't lose to bad teams at home and expect people to care and I'm not seeing how this team pulls it together against the better teams on the schedule.

We'll see how the Hornets respond as they'll have 2 weeks to figure it out.

Stingers Up!

The play calling by this staff in critical situations is really, really bad. Starting with throwing the ball late while protecting a lead at UNR. And tonight I couldn’t help but shake my head at the 4th and 3 jump ball down the sideline, that was our best play call on the most important play of the game? And also do we not believe in spiking? That was a painful last set of plays to watch unravel, and I cannot understand why you don’t spike with 13 seconds, out of timeouts and get fully reset, let the offense get get settled and organized.

Lastly, live by the big play die by the big play. We obviously have the ability to break them but I dread watching deep ball on 1st and 2nd down and quickly being stuck 3rd and 10 with a very average mid range passing game. Our passing game is overall actually very unimpressive, if you take out the home runs by one player it’s wildly ineffective this season and we have not shown we are able to consistently complete 5-15 yard gains.

First time in a while I’ve been legit disillusioned with this program. Just laid an absolute DUD in front of 15k+. As others have mentioned, uninspired sideline, horrible play calling, penalties, injuries to several starters mounting, just so hard to watch.

We watched in real time the players starting to doubt their decision to come here. Some of that has probably been happening behind the scenes, but it was on display at this game.

The 3 interceptions are really what cost the team the game. But the other things people are mentioning was just so glaring, that it overshadowed the turnovers.

Great motto, one great year can change your life.

In practice, 71 guys came here with intent on getting their one great year regardless. Now ask everyone to be selfless and be a team. I came to get a bag not help the guy next to me. Message and mission are dislocated and most likely one of the greatest issues.
