Bring Back Troy

If he wanted it, there's no way this job shouldn't have been Troy's. There's no comparison between him and Carter. I know we don't know all the behind the scenes, but I don't remember any race stuff being an issue when Marion was hired - because dude was legit, regardless of how the season turned out.

I think it's fair to question the reasoning behind this selection. I hope I'm wrong, but we needed a CEO, someone with at least coordinator experience - we got neither. I'm worried we just hired a "rah-rah" vibes guy at the program's most vulnerable point ever.

Adding Angus is a huge get, and like OSH has said, we need to see how the staff fills out. As someone who was super pumped at this time last year and donated to the stadium project (whatever that is/was), and bought 8 season tickets instead of four - I want to be shown progress over patience at this point.

People who have to constantly tell everyone how important they are and have to put other people down have negative psychological terms named after them.
I never said I was important…I just stated that I provided actual, reliable information not unfounded bullshit opinions with an over-inflated opinion of their worth.

I had an epiphany, if Zo is the coach, I will definitely be attending the MC Hammer concert after the game. In fact , MC Hammer needs to be the on field hype man. And let him coach the dance and cheer teams.Hammer

Agreed there is no comparison, but the baggage Troy would have brought with the staff abuse allegations and the ESPN lawsuit gave Dr. Wood the cover to go in a different direction.

My problem is that any reasonable person who read the Stanford article comes away thinking that the whole situation was an obvious nothingburger and an attempt to create the easiest path for Andrew Luck to pick his own guy.

Like, the accusations, even if founded are so Stanfordy it made me want to puke. LOL

If I was a Sac State person, I think I would have preferred proven winner Troy Taylor over the Mc Hammer backup dancer guy. Oh well.

How's that schedule for next season coming along? Think I heard there are quite a few open games still.. Any chance Cal Poly gets invited over and paid like 250K to win at Hornet stadium? That's like 2.5 8 minute Little Yachty concerts. How much are you guys paying visiting teams next season?

I am shocked that you have time to worry about Sac State. Seems like you spend a shocking amount of energy on the Cal Poly page focused on what color uniforms your team is going to wear. I find it interesting your objection to post game concerts given the near riot that ensued on your campus this year for St. Fratty's.

It obviously served as cover to fire him as the AD was fired too. Clearly the powers that be at Stanford wanted a new regime. Nonetheless, as I said on the thread about Troy getting fired, I've heard stories (3rd and 4th hand) about Troy treating some folks pretty crappy while here. Looking at the decision to not bring back Troy without considering the baggage that would have come with him isn't laying out all the considerations going into the decision.

Marion’s exit is not just notable for its timing. It also carries significant contractual ripple effects, including a buyout owed to Sacramento State, a heavily backloaded compensation structure at Colorado, and some unusually detailed language on market-rate mitigation and a head coach contingency that speaks to the volatility of the Buffs’ situation and the premium placed on Marion’s offensive reputation.

Your TL;DR — Deion and Marion are tied together in a must-win season.

Brennan Marion Colorado Buyout And The NFL Escape Hatch

Marion’s Colorado contract also includes detailed buyout language should he leave for another job.

If Marion resigns to take another NCAA or NFL position during the term of the agreement, he owes the university liquidated damages equal to:

• 40 percent of the current base and supplemental salary in the first contract year

• 12.5 percent of the current base and supplemental salary in the second contract year

If the new position is within the Big 12 or any conference Colorado is a member of at the time, an additional 5 percent penalty applies.

However, there is a major carveout.

“If Offensive Coordinator resigns his employment to take a Head NFL or Head NCAA Coaching position or an NFL Offensive Coordinator position, liquidated damages are waived and Offensive Coordinator shall be free to accept such position without penalty.”

In other words, the fastest way out of Boulder without a check attached is a promotion.

Agreed that if this coach was 'all that' he'd have been a coordinator by now, actually, ten or more years ago. Plough was a coordinator in his 30s, HC at 38. Zo is 57. Plough in his pit stop at Cal was tutoring 3rd-string QB Fernando Mendoza from 9 PM often until midnight (the Midnight Crew). Is Zo that committed?

I don’t buy that the Stanford allegations were the reason Taylor wasn’t hired. If that were the case would Bibby who lost his high school job for sexual abuse and harassment allegations have been hired? I heard there were no issues with Taylor while he was here, and I don’t think Orr would have wanted to hire him back if there were. Also Orr didn’t want to hire Bibby. President Wood is calling all the shots. I hope Carter works out and can bring some stability, but I think not bringing back Taylor was a big miss.

Marion goes from $750k to $1.4M and heir apparent for HC at CU if his offense is successful. Squashes a lot of the narratives going around about him leaving for those that were unable to read the tea leaves.

Per this ESPN article pertaining to the 2019 allegations about the alleged 2017 incident, they were investigated and no charges were filed. Here's the AI rundown (so this is what it feels like to pull a Kadeezy) on the incident:

Mike Bibby was dismissed from his volunteer coaching position at Shadow Mountain High School in February 2019 after a teacher accused him of sexual abuse and harassment.

Details of the Incident and Aftermath
  • Allegations: A female teacher filed a restraining order against Bibby, claiming that in February 2017, he grabbed her by the waist, forced her into his car on school grounds, groped her, and rubbed his body and genitals against her. The teacher stated she smelled alcohol on his breath during the alleged incident.
  • School District Action: The Paradise Valley Unified School District stated that upon receiving the injunction against harassment, Bibby was immediately made "ineligible" to volunteer as a coach, pending the outcome of the investigations. Bibby had led the team to five state championships in six years.
  • Investigations: Both the Phoenix Police Department and the school district launched investigations into the allegations.
  • Police Findings: In April 2019, the Phoenix Police Department closed its investigation and did not find probable cause to recommend criminal charges against Bibby.
  • Bibby's Response: Bibby's attorney consistently denied all allegations, asserting the alleged incident never happened.
  • Subsequent Career: After leaving Shadow Mountain, Bibby was hired as the head basketball coach at Hillcrest Prep.

How does this relate to Troy? It doesn't but FWIW the allegations against Troy didn't have a 2 year delay.

It was brought up a few times that maybe Taylor was not hired due to the Stanford allegations. I just don’t think that played a part.
