If Eastern was like a 8 or 9 win team on the cusp of making the playoffs or making the playoffs and losing in the first round then losing players to the portal to other FCS teams who can give the players money, then I'd be like we 100% need NIL money. But that's not happening though. We're having 4 or 5 win seasons.
This might actually be good for us. We can see how his offenses do in Big Sky play without actually hiring him and without Best breathing down his neck. Assuming Idaho's HC won't be dictating what he does offensively.

He does seem like a Baldwin clone. They even kind of look alike. The player I worked with said he left cause of some misconduct it something.
Defensive quality control coaches make $50k to $100k a year in the NFL according to google. Best makes like $240k a year. A brand new HC will make less but not a ton less, maybe like $180k to $200k depending on experience and other offers.
To a certain extent I think that is what happened to Baldwin. He had NFL level talent against, lets face it, a Big Sky back when all the traditional powers, Idaho, Montana, Montana State, were weak. His kind of gimmicky offenses didn't fare well against P5 defenses.
Baldwin had some unbelievable staffs at Eastern. I really think if he could have found an FBS job and brought most of them with him he would have been fine. The Baldwin Eastern teams gave Pac 12 teams fits in nonconference games. I really don't see why Illinois picked Hauck.
