I'm not surprised at all, I work in Stockton (I do not live there, it's practically a third world country) and can honestly say, that there isnt one decent place to live there. Not even in the newer developments over off of 8 Mile Road.

Sorry, but Stockton is truly one aweful place.

Sure, Lodi's better, but NW Stockton near Bear Creek High isn't so bad. Avoid the area near Franklin High (SE Stockton) like the plague, though. In addition, the campus at UOP is OK. AS LONG AS YOU STAY ON CAMPUS. (More than a block off campus, and you start running into problems.)

On the whole, though, the area around Sac State is nicer....

I think the homes around UOP are nice, you get a real traditional college feeling in those neighborhoods. Lots of frats and sororities and the homes are kept up pretty well, which is unusual for older neighborhoods in Stockton.

Back in the late 90's, I went down to Stockton twice. Once was for Sac State women's soccer at UOP soccer field, which was atrocious. Had to either stand or sit on a dirt hill.

The other was another event at UOP, women's national team soccer: Sween vs. Japan. Their football stadium at UOP was OK. Nothing special, but comfortable. Better than the varsity soccer field.

I found Stockton depressing. Worse downtown urban decay than many rust belt cities I've seen. And the rest of Stockton was just boringly put together.

I do hear that the city has gotten better in the 2000's and now.

For the last several years, the UOP kickball team has played in Amos Alonzo Stagg Memorial Stadium (i.e. the football field). Not exactly atrocious, but, as you say, nothing to write home about, either. Inside, it's pretty nice for college games, but players wear down their cleats just walking down the hill from the field house to the field on dilapidated asphalt.

That said, the stands are probably in better shape than Hornet Stadium. No danger of rival fans falling through the seats, anyway. But UOP's field itself is in HORRIBLE shape, whereas Sac has had a nice remodel job. At least players won't get hurt by turning ankles on bad spots in Sac's field.

Yeah there's nothing to do in Stockton, horrible City. Sacramento has some fun things to do now. It used to be much worse then it is now. I read that we were also recently recognized finally for the culinary aspects of Sacramento. SO things are at least looking up for SAC.
