The players had organized a 7 on 7 game with CSU-Pueblo. This was done by the players, for the players. Anyone who says that this team doesn't have players who care about winning knows absolutely nothing about football. These players gave up time on their Saturday to make themselves better. Just a few days before they have to report to camp, they were out there in the heat competing and working as a team.
Anytime there is a coaching change in a program, there are always going to be kids on the team who don't relate to or respect the new coaching staff. Chances are there are players on the team that the coaching staff has no use for either. That is because coaches recruit players who have the attributes that they look for in an athlete. At every program, FCS, FBS, and Div II, players leave or are encouraged to leave, because they are not a good fit for the program anymore. Charlie Wies kicked the starting quarterback off the team at Kansas when he took over this year. Why? Because he did not think he was a good fit for HIS program. Coach Collins deserves a chance to recruit and build a group of players into a winning team. He can't be expected to step into Downing's mess and win with the players that he did not recruit. Downing's players may not like Collins, but what about the players that he and his staff recruited. Obviously someone is getting the message or their wouldn't have been 30+ players on the practice field last Saturday.
Support your team and your coaching staff, or find a new team. That goes for players and fans!!!
He does deserve a chance. Doesn't mean he's exempt from his first impression. Hopey wishy never got anything done.
