too bad this game isn't on a saturday....would be amazing to see 10,000 on hand! what can we get on a thursday? big game! :thumb:

I bet we either get at least 7,000 or just below. There is no "free ticket vouchers" for this game so there most likely wont be as many as there was last night. You never know though, they reminded everyone about the Griz game like 6 times last night We just might get a good one. Im guessing 6,885-7,185ish

I agree with you as well catcat, this SHOULD be a saturday game, the conference knows how big of a rivarly this has become. The game in Missoula was on a saturday, why not this one to?

I tell you what though, we cnat have 16 turnovers and Scotty B cant go o-fers. This is too big of a game for that to happen.

Lets go out there and put a stop to Montana's winning streak

Looking forward to the game! No doubt Weber has plenty of talent to put away the griz. I'm little nervous about our zone offense... too much perimeter dribbling and not enough cutting/passing - we all know montana is just going to sit back in zone for most of the game :twocents: . Scotty is due for some zone breaking 3's. Should be a good game.

Cant wait for Thursdays game. I know its highly unlikely and most of you will disagree however I would love to see Rahe shake up the line up to throw Montana off a bit. Its tough to type this considering how well J-Rich has been playing and its no knock to him or his game however I think we have the ability to create some tough matchups that Montana hasn't seen all year with a few small tweaks.

PG Berry vs. Cherry - Putting a 6-4 Berry on Cherry would disrupt Cherry's flow some. Berry is actually a pretty good defender on the ball as well as one of our best passers. Berry's offensive ability will make Montana play him honest which will create open looks for Bam.

SG Bamforth Vs. Gregory - Bam's senior year coming off a game where he had a goose egg. I envision Bam hitting 4-6 threes off of Berry driving and kicking it out.

SF Otis vs. Jamar - I struggle with this one because Mook has been playing out of his mind lately but Jamar is having an unbeliveable year. Their games are so different so I honestly dont know how this would match up would work. I like Mooks physical prescense on Jamar with Joel & Tres protecting the basket if Jamar gets by Mook.

PF Bomomboy vs. Hutchison - We know Joel hasn't developed his offensive game yet but starting him at the 4 helps us a ton on the boards. His energy and ability the run the floor will keep Montanas bigs working. We cant give Montana second chances, having Joel on the court gives us an advantage on the boards.

C Tresnak vs. Ward - Not much to say here other than a good match up between the conferences best centers.

I was purusing the Griz forum just now and I came across a post that got me thinking. One of our fans said that Weber was quicker and deeper, where upon a Griz fan said that the Griz were. Of course I have a bias, but I thought I'd look at this quantitatively. He, I presume, said that the Griz next 3-4 off the bench are capable of put up double figures at anytime. Well, aren't Weber's also just as capable. Yes, Cherry and Jamaar are good, but I think Berry and Bamforth are pretty damn good also. So...an analysis of the starting five and first three off the bench:

Montana:
1. Will Cherry: 13.3ppg, 4.1rpg, 4.5asp, 2.1spg. In 496min has scored 199pts on 58 for 137 .423% (3's .314) 12 games in double figures with a season high of 28.
2. Kareem Jamar: 13.9ppg, 6.1rpg, 4.3asp, 1.0spg. In 751min has scored 305pts on 103 for 210 .490% (3's .403) 17 games in double figures with a season high of 26
3. Spencer Coleman: 7.3ppg, 3.0rpg, .7asp, .9spg. In 503min has scored 160pts on 60 for 121 .496% (3's .366) 8 games in double figures with a season high of 20
4. Mathias Ward: 14.8ppg, 4.1rpg, .8asp, .5spg. In 697min has scored 326pts on 118 for 233 .506 (3's .400) 17 games in double figures with a season high of 27.
5. Eric Hutchinson: 2.5ppg, 1.8rpg, .3asp, .3pgs. In 263min has scored 48pts on 20 for 42 .476
Scored in double figures once this season with a high of 12.

Jordan Gregory 7.5ppg 5 games in double figures with a high of 17 503 total mins
Kerron DeSheilds 7.0ppg 6 games in double figures with a high of 17 442 total mins
Michael Weisner 6.3ppg 5 games in double figures with a high of 13 433 total mins

Seems to me that there is no doubt Montana has the best trio in the conference with Cherry, Jamar, and Ward. Weber may have better balance across it's starting 5, especially now with the way Mook is playing. Hopefully Tres will have a big game Sat night. That may be the spot where we have a definite advantage over the Griz. But we will need to shut down Cherry. As old Al McGuire former coach of Marquette and former College Basketball color commentator used to say -- if you can cut off the head, the body will die.

I would throw in Coleman to be a bit of a big 4. He's been playing crazy good the past few weeks and is cutting better than anyone on the team. Plus his athleticism makes his driving game that much more dangerous.

I like your enthusiasm and I think you are onto something here.

I think a couple of changes might be good for the Cats too. Nothing to the starting lineup, but perhaps to who guards who.

Bamforth vs. Cherry
Richardson vs. Jamar
Berry vs. Coleman
Mook vs. Ward
Tres vs. Hutch

I'd take Gelaun, Royce, Bolomboy, and Hajek anyday over Gregory, Weisner, Martin, and Desheilds (is he even playing?).

Bam has quickly become one of the best guards in the conference and we all know that Richardson can flat out defend. Mook vs. Ward will be a battle, and it doesn't get any easier for Ward once Bolomboy comes into the game.

Okay? So what are you trying to prove exactly? Little lost here.

Purpleforlife - What you propose is intriguing as well. Here is some more color on my original suggestions.

Cherry will NOT get to the like 16 times in Ogden(Atleast I hope not)! While Bam is also a great defender, I want Berry guarding him because he has Bam by 2inches and has a longer wingspan to make Cherry work harder for his shots. Cherry also had 6rebounds in the last outting which is too much to give up at the PG position.

My other suggestion was to figure out how do you get Joel on the court more. We cant subplant our big three of Bamforth, Berry & Tresnak so it comes down to based on this match up alone who creates the most problems for Montana. J-Rich gives you headly play from the guard position, solid on the ball defense and a 3pt threat. Joel gives you rebounding, blocks & energy. We were out rebounded 31-25 in Montana. Doesnt seem like a huge disparity but when you lose by 1 basket 6 extra possesions for Montana is HUGE.

Just a thought... I can easily say that we lost in Montana by one basket so why mess with what we have going. On the other hand we boast of our depth & athleticism, so why not mix things up to take advantage of it.

Keron definitely plays and people here love him. I would just say this. I would never take Gelaun over any of those guy or if at all if I were a coach. Too much baggage and attitude, not enough production. Ive had enough personal encounters with him to know that he doesn't know how to handle a fan even. No thank you. But is take our guys everyday, and keep a 14-0 record :)

Uh...okay. So what aren't you getting?

My post shows the top 8 Griz players and their statistical efficiency. You could add Henderson and Martin into the mix, but I got complacent. The Griz really don't have much of a frontcourt and I'd say our backcourts are fairly even, with the exception of experience which does pay dividends that gives the Griz the advantage.

If you are going to be a turd, I can add our top 8 players into the mix and show the statistical differences. But It'll have to wait. I'm feeling somewhat lazy. :coffee:

DeShields wouldn't make walk-on, on Weber's squad.

how can we apply this to help us win? how about the 6th man....the home crowd? we need a big crowd!
