Uh...so back to the game. This is a thread about Weber State vs. Montana, isn't it? Not one about Catcat's gender identity issues.

Yep, consistency.
Thursday's game:
Point Guard: Advantage Montana. As much as I love Richardson, Cherry is the best PG in the league (one of the best all time). He has a calm and controlled demeanor and plays with confidence. Richardson, is a solid PG and when he leaves, will be fondly remembered as one of Weber's best. But he isn't the juggernaut that Cherry is. However, Richardson isn't a slouch. He can play and is showing his abilities more and more as this season goes on. He is one of the top defenders in the league, guarding Lillard for two years has that affect on you, and has proven his ability to score. He isn't as adroit at getting to the line as Cherry, which is one aspect of his game that he could work on, but I believe he is a solid passer, and a better shooter than Cherry. If there is a player in this league who can shut Cherry down it would be Jordan.
Shooting Guard: Advantage Montana. Jamar is an overall stat line stuffer. He can do a little of everything. He and Cherry are what makes Montana so dangerous. He can pass, defend, rebound, shoot and he does the little things on the floor without the ball that helps the team...setting screens, help defense, filling lanes...etc etc etc. He is the best player in the Sky. Yet, for me, at least, if there is a player that can match him in the Sky, it is Scott Bamforth. Bamforth isn't the biggest player on the floor, nor always the best, but you always remember him. Even in a game where he doesn't score a point, he makes his point by leading the team and being an expert at ensuring that the details of the game are addressed. He is an all-conference player and should be again this season; especially since he has improved his defensive presence so much this season.
Shooting Forward: Advantage Weber. Berry is far and away the best 3 in the conference. He can do a little bit of everything. He is a team leader for the Cats and is starting to really come into his own this season. On any given night Berry could go off for 25+, but is more interested in seeing the team succeed than in his own stats. Sometimes he tries to make one too many passes when he should keep the ball, but you can't fault him for being a team player, it is what makes him that much more dangerous. He can pass, drive, defend, and rebound. He is one of the scariest players in the Sky. Coleman for Montana isn't Art Steward, but has done an adequate job of filling in for one of the best glu men in recent Sky history. Coleman has been playing better as of late, which is a sign of a player getting comfortable and can do the little things required of a 3. He moves really well without the ball and has a real knack of finding the ball. He can play above the rim and often has to. Gotta box him out.
Power Forward: Advantage DRAW. I'm going to get some heat on this one from Griz fans, but whatever. Ward is a solid offensive player, but Mook can match him with his defense. Whereas, Ward can't necessarily guard Mook. Yet, Ward has a killer outside shot and can really spread the offense opeing up opportunities for his team mates. Mook shoots a high percentage, but most of his makes this season have been within 5' of the basket. Yet, his ability to get there is what makes him so special. He has excellent ball handling abilities and like Coleman has a knack of finding the ball. He runs the floor extremely well. Imagine if Mook had Wards outside touch and Ward had Mooks speed. Well, Weber fans we will see that next year with Fuller. That should scare a lot of Big Sky schools. Nonetheless, this is a draw because each have special abilities that the other doesn't have. This could be the deciding factor in the game. Whoever plays the best might bring a W to their team.
Center: Advantage Weber. Hutch and Martin try to play the Dutch boy by holding back the seas, and usually they do alright, but against Tres...there might not be much hope. Tinkle's plan might be to play small ball and have Cherry, Gregory, Jamar, Coleman, and Ward on the floor in an effort to minimize Tres' impact, but Tinkle also knows how much better Tres has become this year. He can run the floor a lot better than he could in the past and is far more hungry than he once was. Tres is tougher and plays with some attitude. Yet, having Ward on the floor as the Center creates a situation where Ward is a bit quicker and someone who can pull the big out of the lane. It'll be interesting to see what Tinkle does. Martin will be a solid big by the time he is a JR.
Bench: Advantage Weber. There has been a lot of talk about DeSheilds, Gregory, and Weisner. They are all excellent players, but I think Weber has the advantage, with Wheelwright, Bolomboy, Williams, and Hajek. Also, as has been stated on other threads, Fulton isn't a bad player. On the Contrary he is an excellent player. One who can spread the floor and has a lot of experience. Weber can sub a player at every position and keep the team balanced and successful, something Montana can't do. Also, Weber's bench doesn't act like a bunch of idiots. :dunce:
