#16 Montana State vs #17 Portland State

On a separate but not entirely unrelated topic, I think we all understand that "at some point in time", Beau Baldwin will leave Eastern for more money. It may be next year; it may be 10 years from now. Coach Best would likely be in the pole position to take over as Eastern next HC. But I'd strongly suggest that we'd at least reach out to Bruce Barnum. Eastern has a lot of advantages in terms of university support that PSU can't offer, and Barnum has spent time in Cheney in the past and is familiar with Eagle football.

Not to get too far off of the topic of PSU, but in regards to your opinion about Coach Best, I think he goes wherever Beau goes. I totally agree with you that he'd be the best replacement for the program, but like Beau, he too has earned and deserves a bigtime job.

Actually getting the Root sports broadcast in Atlanta today and there is no one in the stands for PSU. Estimate 30-35% full. Playing physical and like they believe... Good on the coaches.

If you haven't seen a game of theirs on TV before, you may be surprised to know that this is more than they usually have, except when EWU plays there.

That is a great crowd for them...seriously not joking.

Montana State's team speed on defense is terrible. That can't be blamed on youth.

Southern Utah is the only team in the Big Sky that plays good defense. They are routing Sac State right now.

The Griz and PSU are both good on D.

I'd say the Griz and PSU are passable on D, Weber State isn't too shabby either. Southern Utah is actually very good on defense. This conference has some really dubious defenses on the whole, as evidenced by us winning the conference last year essentially without one.

Portland State will be potent this year. I remembered talking about Portland in their 2013 season and said this:

Portland State had the talent to be a bubble team in the playoffs this year. The only thing that held them back was Portland's absurdly terrible coaching staff. Since there have been no announcements for the removal of their coaching staff, I am going to assume that Portland State will be held back again and deteriorate as talented players request a transfer. If their coaching staff pulls their head out of their asses, I might believe they pull off a winning season next year.

Portland has been there each and every year, with more talent than most Big Sky teams. They've just been hampered with an atrocious coaching staff. It's no fluke that the minute the staff is replaced, PSU makes their come back.

I am excited and a little nervous about our match up with them this year.

I still don't see PSU as a playoff team. They have a good win against the cougs and a decent win against MSU. They beat cal poly and I'll buy into it. They are still not at our level..,
