Series: EWU leads 5-2.
Last Meeting: 2013 - EWU won 34-10 in Cheney, WA.

The Eagles put their 12-game league winning streak on the line this week, having not lost since falling 30-27 at SUU on Oct. 27, 2012. The Eagles are 22-2 in their last 24 Big Sky games dating back to a 0-2 start in 2011.

The Eagles enter the game 5-1 after another Big Sky shootout in a 56-53 victory over Idaho State. Eastern is 2-0 in the Big Sky Conference as it defends the league title it won with an 8-0 record last season.

That game in 2012 knocked Eastern out of the No. 1 ranking in FCS, and was one of only five losses Vernon Adams Jr. has had in his 30 games as EWU's starter. This week, Eastern is one spot down the ladder, and will have to do it without Adams. He is out 3-6 weeks with two broken metatarsals in his right foot suffered against Idaho State on Oct. 4.

Southern Utah, meanwhile, advanced to last year's NCAA Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs, but is only 1-5 this season. Its first four losses included two losses to FBS teams, plus a pair to ranked FCS foes. The Thunderbirds opened league play with a 31-28 win over Weber State, then lost at Cal Poly 42-39 to slip to 1-1 in the league.

Looks like Ammon Olsen is a transfer from BYU and is mobile and can throw it. A little older too, so more mature? Seemed pretty composed in the little I have watched. Here's his Bio off the SUU site:

Returns to SUU this spring after transferring from BYU. Originally signed with the Thunderbirds out of high school in 2009, was SUU's backup that fall before serving an LDS church mission in Mexico. Transferred to BYU following his mission, where he spent the 2012 season as a redshirt and the 2013 as the No. 2 quarterback for the Cougars.

Personal: Earned Utah’s 5A Most Valuable Player honors last season after captaining Coach Les Hamilton’s Alta High Hawks to their second straight state championship and third consecutive region title. Was also named Utah’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2008 when he completed 193-of-306 passes (63.1 percent) for 3,209 yards and 36 touchdowns and ran for 860 yards and another 11 scores. Led his team to four second-half comeback wins last year. Was also a three-year letterman on the AHS basketball team and earned region MVP honors as a senior. Parents are Stephanie and Bryan Olsen. Is undecided upon a major course of study.

SUU just doesn't look that good on film, but Olsen has a few games under his belt now and was a top talent out of HS. SUU plays a 3-4 and bring pressure 60+ % of the time with 1 or 2 LB's and play press, man coverage (tough to tell with the camera view). Eag's should eat their lunch all day. They have so little offense, it's painful to watch. They will most likely pin their ears back early to try and get to JW. Expect Coach B to have a TE in the set to help early, but he's loco so anything is possible  Our RB's catch the ball well and WR's make people miss so the short passing game extends the field sideline to sideline. If JW comes out hot, deep ball should be there too. Even on the road with a first time starter, hard to see this one any other way than a good win for the Eags. Go Eags!

They only show 9 seniors on their roster. Ouch.

Based on watching the games, the deep ball isn't necessary in this game. If Jordan can get the ball to receivers on screens and short crossing routes, they will make the magic happen. Same vein, our running backs are hot, and will help out if nerves are getting to JW.

Question: I might have to miss part of the game. Can you watch re-plays on Big Sky TV, and if so, how long after the game are they posted?

Just log back into big sky tv and when the viewing screen comes up click on VOD (video on demand). the calendar should come up and you can select the date for the big sky events.

Thanks!

Do I have to wait for the game to finish first?

What do you mean? All the games are index'd there by date. You should be able to watch anything this season that has aired.

I think he was asking if you can start a game at the beginning if the live broadcast is at a later point... sort of like watching a game on DVR from the beginning an hour after it started. I believe the answer is no; you can only watch the live broadcast or a re-air from the beginning at the completion of the broadcast.

Yep. Thx!

Anyone else planning on going to Cedar City, UT other than myself and Clawman? Hope to see at least 25 of us there.

I'm driving up from the Phoenix area and bringing a buddy so there's 4 fans. Really want to see how West does, it would make me feel better if Forte was playing...

Are you going to the NAU game as well? I might have to make the trip over for that one.

Yep. Got two tickets for that game as well.

We are likely to see some mistakes from Jordan West. Try not to freak out when they occur. Everyone else on the field is going to have six games under their belt and JW's season is just beginning.

Things we will are most likely see:
Lack of pocket awareness. He will probably get blind sided a few times.

Lack of field vision. We might see some wide open receivers that don't get the ball. A quarterback has a million things to see at once and seeing everyone's place at once is difficult.

Interceptions. Part of field vision, but with much worse consequences.

Not getting rid of the football on time. We might see Jordan hold onto the ball under pressure instead of throwing it away. Pretty common rookie mistake.

Fumbling the snap I hope our center and Jordan have some good chemistry otherwise we could see some footballs hitting the turf.

Bad throws This is especially something you should not panic from. This is his first game as a starting quarterback and he has a lot of catching up to do. He may need a couple of games to get the throwing rhythm down.

Now, I'm not saying any of these things are guaranteed to happen. He could come in and just have that natural presence. Vernon Adams did. However, if they do, let's cut the guy some slack for at least a few games.

Just trying to prevent a meltdown. There have been many on this site that have been very short sighted.
