#2 EWU at SUU Game Thread

I have been of the impression fans are supportive of West and looking forward to seeing him on the field. No one that I have seen believes he will be another Vernon, but could develop into a Nichols or Meyers in time.
If our D keeps them 30 or less, we win!

We are likely to see some mistakes from Jordan West. Try not to freak out when they occur. Everyone else on the field is going to have six games under their belt and JW's season is just beginning.

Things we will are most likely see:
Lack of pocket awareness. He will probably get blind sided a few times.

Lack of field vision. We might see some wide open receivers that don't get the ball. A quarterback has a million things to see at once and seeing everyone's place at once is difficult.

Interceptions. Part of field vision, but with much worse consequences.

Not getting rid of the football on time. We might see Jordan hold onto the ball under pressure instead of throwing it away. Pretty common rookie mistake.

Fumbling the snap I hope our center and Jordan have some good chemistry otherwise we could see some footballs hitting the turf.

Bad throws This is especially something you should not panic from. This is his first game as a starting quarterback and he has a lot of catching up to do. He may need a couple of games to get the throwing rhythm down.

Now, I'm not saying any of these things are guaranteed to happen. He could come in and just have that natural presence. Vernon Adams did. However, if they do, let's cut the guy some slack for at least a few games.

Dude, patronize much? Save it for a rainy day.

Just trying to prevent a meltdown. There have been many on this site that have been very short sighted.

Just considered it unnecessary, sort of like sex ed to 1st graders or 60 year olds. :-) That said, you are well within your rights to exercise your opinion. Keep 'em coming. Not sure why you think people on this board are so raw (at nerves end) that they wouldn't account for JW's lack of experience at this level. Not asking you to explain either. There are more than a few, who think their good intentions, should be enough to shut down dialogue. It does make people edgy. :grizo1:

We didn't get to the top of the FCS heap worrying about our backup QB beating Southern Utah. This is an opportunity to move forward faster. To further distance ourselves from the pack. What would the sentiment be if Jordan were able to surpass the expectations? Just imagine.

^ I just relived my worst nightmares as a QB. Thanks a lot RJones.

I am confident that Jordan West will be well prepared. It's not like he's a green freshman. He has been in the system for three years and has a great cast of offensive players around him, including the best offensive line and receivers in the BSC. In addition, he has a great coaching staff with an old savvy QB for a head coach.

Honestly, I am trying to have realistic expectations, but high expectations. I think the place we are at in these modern times, we have players who can step in, even at the QB position, and deliver at a high level. I actually think the offense, with JW will perform well enough to win. I think he will have some first game issues, but that he will be able to settle down, and will play a good game. I think the coaches will tailor the game plan to account for some of these concerns, and they will be mitigated.

I just think our D will have to step up, and play at a higher level then they have to pull out the win. Our offense will be good with JW, but it likely will not be as good. And considering we've barely squeaked out wins with outstanding offensive performance, we really need the D to have a UC Davis-like performance. If that happens in each game up to UM, I think we win every one of those. And the UM game will be a slugfest.

That's what I see coming, optimistically of course.

It's a beautiful day down here in Cedar City.
The team just arrived and they looked pumped to play

There will be lots and lots of short "rhythm" passes, crossing routes, screens, etc. We it last week with Vernon and will continue that with a newbie. Our receivers are amazing, and Brown has been playing well. They can make West look good by themselves.

Great to hear that! I remember being there in 2009 and at game time the sun was out but before the end of the first quarter it was snowing hard - sideways! It was November if I recall correctly so perhaps the weather will hold better this time. :D

Represent and Go Eags!

It will be in the low 70's with barely a cloud in the sky. Already see lots of Eastern gear walking around the parking lot

Not to be a hater, but listening to the pregame show right now... Ebukam needs to stay away from the mic. Terrible interviewee.

I agree.

I'm listening as well...20 players out for this game for various reason. Shaq Hill, serving a one game suspension for breaking team rules...hmm.

Not impressed with the tailgate scene here in Cedar City. Remains me of Cheney in the early 2000's. There is a number of people in EWU gear.

not sure what the suspensions are for but breaking team rules when your team is already short handed and depending on you is a pretty selfish act in my opinion.
