2009-2010 Recruits

Possible signees: Craig Von Allman, Kylel Coleman, Franklin Sessions, and Mike Fitzgerald. I heard from from an anonymous source in the Athletic Department, that the Coaches have found a kid that is supposedly legit, but the source wouldn't give me any info on where he is from or what school he is going to. I guess its to close to the spring signing dates... By the Way that starts at midnight...

Did we sign anybody today? Come on what's the scoop?????

Sessions, if you are reading this Please Come to WEber. if you do we will have you over to the Victory Tree for a ceremony Dew!

Von Allman signed with Black Hills State, apparently Weber pulled interest in the fall, so I don't know why his name kept flying around. Fitzgerald signed with Air Force. I'm assuming Session and Coleman are out with the signing of Noble??? Matt Peeler sounds interesting though.

Southern Utah has signed four (4) players 7'0 or taller in the last six months, and I can't help to wonder why we can't Rahe recruit bigger bigs??? To me 6'8 centers isn't going to cut it.

Von Allman was offered a scholarship as was Fitzgerald, but have decided on different options, and we hope the best for both. Peeler is being looked at for the 2010 season... He would be an early signee next fall. Nooble is a complete shock...if its the player that Duft found, then good times.

If these bigs are going to SUU then they aren't very good. Remember ISU has a lot of bigs three 6'11 or taller, and none of them are very good. I'd rather have a hard working skill player than some guy who might turn out.

I don't know about that. Roger Reid can recruit they all look to be Australian and Canadian they might end up kicking our ass next Year.

Weber has had success with international bigs Ocokolic and Veleika. That recruiting angle seems to be missing as soon as Cravens left.

Art wasn't recruited by Cravens. Danko, Thurig, Niparovich, Gatto, and Nadim were all recruited by Cravens. Slobodan was a lucky find. None of those bigs ended up doing much for Weber. Bachman was recruited and signed while Abeggelon was still the coach. Good bigs are very difficult to find. Maybe Reid found a couple of diamonds in the rough. Who knows?? For him and SUU I hope things turn out, but the chances aren't very good. Canadian and Australian basketball is nothing compared to what its like in the US. In the Sky, the teams with the best backcourt usually are the ones that do the best. Weber's best teams in the last 20 years had short centers. Andy Smith and Andy Jensen (95 and 98) were both 6'8" starting centers on teams that won games in the NCAA tourny. I don't think SUU is going to be kicking anyone's butts anytime soon. At least I hope not... One never knows, they could be legit.

Tell that to Nevill and Bogut. Basketball in Australia is getting huge. They have half the population of Cali, and seem to be spitting out NBA talent they will have a handful in the draft, Patty Mills in the first round. All I know is what I saw the last 2 games of the year. We were dominated in the paint. If all we can get is a 6'8 center then he needs to be better than mediocre.

I agree that Weber needs better big men Panos got man handled by Mbunga and at SDSU. Mahoney and Morris (freshmen and Sophmore) are going to play a big role if the Cats are going to succeed in the future. Also, I'm pretty sure that the coaches are looking to sign big men this upcoming fall in the early signing period.

The Big Sky is dominated by guards and always has.

ISU and SUU have lots of players over 6'8", I doubt a single one of em Rahe would even want. Just because they are tall doesn't mean they are any good.

Look at ISU this past season, tallest team in the conference and weren't that great, we swept them. They were outrebounded more than they outrebounded their opponents.

I believe Reid will get SUU competitive maybe even a power in their conference but they are kinda like ISU. Reid is a smart coach as he is a WSU alum! He was the only coach in the wac and mtn west that didn't have a losing record to majerus, every single coach in both conferences did but him.

It is very difficult to get a great player over 6'8" at WSU, and well it didnt even matter this year and we went 15-1, ISU went 9-7, 13-19.

We got lucky with 6'11" Lance Allred who transferred from Utah, same with 6'9" Slobodan who transferred from Ohio State. Arturas was brought here by Coach Jeff Linder along with Daviin Davis.

Jensen was an Abegglan player.

As for the Swiss, Stephan was a very good offensive player, didn't have any D, I bet Rahe coulda made him a great player. Thurig was the worst player on the team.

Give Mahoney, Morris & Bullinger a chance. They are all young players.

To be realistic having 6'8" guys is all you need in the Big Sky, its the OOC games is where you see the big difference.

Also, from what I've noticed over the years, at least this decade is that almost every player over 6'8" in the big sky usually isn't any good. If your 6'10' or taller, if your decent you can go to a bigger conference. The real tall players the Big Sky gets you don't necessarily want or if you sign one you just hope you get lucky and you usually don't.

Good example:

Danko - 7'
EWU's Mullet from 2003
ISU, a bunch

Most of the first-team 4's and 5's are 6'7"-6'9" each year.
