Interesting names on the list of non-returnees:

2008 LETTERWINNERS LOST (23)
Offensive Starters (3): WR Ty Coleman, RG Clayton Rios, LT Landan Laurusaitis
Defensive Starters (4): ILB Andy Schantz, OLB KJ McCrae, CB Reggie Jones, SS Aaron Dickson
Special Teams Starter (1): K/P Danny Urrego
Other Letterwinners Lost: CB Stanley Jackson, DE Johnathan Benjamin-Nichols, DT Lloyd Talakai, WR Steve Cooper, SS Michael Wightman (transfer); ILB Logan Dose, JR LB Jake Fetzer (injury, lettered in 2007), FS Andrew Fuller, WR Mike Corral, CB Onu Onu, OL Jasper Croome, QB Jimmy Collins, SR DE John Shackford, FS Chris Assily, OLB Eloka AnyaorahFB

What happened to Anyaorah and Assily?

Man the loss of Assily, Anyaorah, Croome, Onu, and Wightman hurt and I hadn't heard anything about those players leaving except Croome. Anyaorah in particular, he was arguably the top player in last year's recruiting class and I think he might have been the fastest player on the team (by 40 time).

Assily is a monster loss.

Reminded me of that guy Colt Anderson at UM.
Big Loss.

What the hell went wrong?

No way Chis Assily was anywhere near for PSU what Colt Anderson was for UM. Assilly wasn't even able to hold onto the starting position that was given to him before last lear. He got beat over top, busted coverage, and never once layed the lumber on a receiver or running back. Anderson was everywhere on the field and always lowered the boom. Tough kid. He sure was fun to watch even though he played for the enemy. Hopefully Cody Worthen can be a player like that... or more. Now there's a kid with some upside.

I was just about to post this. ;-)

Answers a couple of questions.

Anyaorah - grades
Assily - personal reasons
Onu - rules

More contact in practice. I'm on board.

Okay, now lets leave Drew in the game! Every R&S QB struggles, you can't just pull them every game and expect them to get better.

I'm hoping we begin to see the offense and defense play well at the same time. Its been a rarity the past 2 seasons.

A Christian school.....
Yes it's a Christian school. Kramer is a strong Christian. He will have a better chance of playing there. Very good young man from what I have heard. Best of luck to him.

Football Team Will Hit On Friday; Three Vikings Sign With NFL

http://www.goviks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?temp_site=NO&DB_OEM_ID=19300&ATCLID=3729282

Portland State football entered its second week of spring drills on Monday. The Vikings continue preparation for the 2009 season at Stott Community Field. And while the early-morning temperatures have returned to their normal chilly levels, the play on the field is heating up.

PSU ran 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 sessions on Monday morning. The Vikings are scheduled to have live plays on Friday morning, working on game situations (1st-and-10, 2nd-and-short, 3rd-and-long, etc.) with tackling - a departure from the two previous springs under Head Coach Jerry Glanville. Those plays will be run midway through practice at approximately 8 a.m.

VIKINGS IN THE NFL: With NFL Draft Weekend come and gone, no Portland State Vikings were drafted, but three have signed free agent contracts. Notably, top linebacker Andy Schantz has signed with the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Schantz, a third-team Associated Press All-American, led the Vikings with 115 tackles, had 15 tackles for loss and nine pass breakups in 2008. He is the third Viking linebacker in as many years to join an NFL team (Jordan Senn, Colts, 2008; Adam Hayward, Buccaneers, 2007)... also signing free agent contracts were cornerback Reggie Jones and kicker/punter Danny Urrego. Jones signed with the New Orleans Saints. He had 38 tackles, four interceptions, two fumble recoveries and seven pass breakups in 2008. Urrego signed with the Buffalo Bills. He was 15-23 on field goals in 2008 and averaged 40.5 yards per punt for the Vikings.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE: Spring practice continues on Tuesday. Other practice dates include Apr. 30 and May 1, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12 and 14. All practices are 7-9 a.m. The final spring scrimmage is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 16.

I saw Danny punting on the practice field on Friday. Is that an indication that he's looking to play there in the pros? It'd be nice to see them all make teams right away, but I wouldn't count on it.
