2009 Spring Football/Practice Reports Thread

Has anyone been to Spring practice? I sure would love to know how it is shaping up...
who's taking Andy's MLB spot?? How does the team look? Thanks for any info!

Along these lines... I haven't noticed Richards #91 on the field out at practice. Didn't he play quite a bit last year backing up Andy and Pedersen?

I can't figure out why no one is posting any news on the Spring practice...can anyone tell us who is
taking Andy's slot? How is the team shaping up? Someone must know something...share!

For me, the 7am start time is tough with work. Something in the afternoon would be easier to try to get up there for a late lunch, or zip out a bit early to catch some practice time.

Run gets Viks’ attention

From the Tribune article: “We have to run better and stop the run better,” Glanville says. “All (my) years in pro football, we led the league in rushing with this offense. But you have to get the right people to have the balance.”

Wow! I haven't watched much of the run and shoot until it came back to PSU, so I had no idea teams led the league in rushing using it. Am I reading that wrong? It seems like we went forever without running the ball during the last couple of years.

Has anyone ever seen it used to run effectively? What's the difference between how it was used then vs how we have been using it lately?

I think what he's saying is that we need to be able to rush for needed yards on a consistent basis. i.g. 3rd and short situations. Time of possession has killed us and pushed the defense into a lot of plays per game. Better running on short yardage by the offense will help the defense.

All this talk of rushing the ball in short yardage situations just gave me a flashback to the UC Davis game from 2007.

Or that NAU game. Wasn't that the one where we had it first and goal on the 1 yard line and came away with zilch?

Will third time be the charm for Glanville's Vikings? Maybe

I was thinking it was UC Davis. As I recall, NAU was when JG went for the win at the end of the game but an incomplete pass sealed our fate.

McCaffrey and Curran look good. In fact, all of the offense looks good. Can't say the same about the defense - 11 touchdowns? - but of course it's an artificial set-up. We'll see come August. Track's over today- we didn't do well at that - and softball too - we lost. Athletics is going into hibernation fro the summer.

Ahh, I think you're right.

Question is. Does it really matter? :-|
