2010-11 Recruiting

CATCAT.... you need to update the recruiting information on Weber Hoops!! I'm under the impression that Weber is looking for 3-5 guys for next season. IMHO, I think the Wizard is going to sign between 2-3 this fall and have a couple options left over for next spring. Weber is definitely looking for a Big Man and a Wing. Also, a PG/SG (never hurts to have depth).

rivals.com still has Lionel Holmes as being one of our recruits... However, I believe, that he signed with Stephen F. Austin.

Coach Rahe and staff, has offered at number of players, I know of four: C/PF Ben Mills 7-0 195 (WI), C Kyle Tresnak 6-9 225 (AZ), C/PF Carter Warnock 6-9 220 (AZ), and Combo G Ryan Whitehead 6-0 185 (AZ). This is purely my opinion, but I think Weber has offered at least three more players, but I have no idea who they are or where they are. I think out of the three there is one, or possibly two, JCs (I believe that Mario Gill [Eastern AZ JC] who would have three years of eligibility has been offered)

Jamal Ford, a Bullinger type player, is being recruited by the Wizard. Ford could compete for the cats at either the 3 or 4 position. From what I've heard, he has not been offered. With regard to this season's recruits, I think a lot depends upon Ben Mills.

I'm hoping Weber is able to sign Mills, Richardson, Omogun, and Tresnak. No matter, I think whoever the Coaches sign will be the best Weber can get. Oh Frye, Warnock, Gill, and Garnica would be great also.

Keep your eye on Omogun's team mate Tre Johnson another 6-7 very athletic power forward, who i have heard that Weber is also taking a look at. Mills seems to be blowing up right now and may move beyond the Big Sky level (both Weber and my Montana State have been looking at him). Tresnak is also a kids who stock is rising but Weber is still in the picture.

Hey, mslacat, thanks for the info. I've been looking at and reading your blog for sometime now. I hope you didn't mind me using it in my last post.
I agree with you on MIlls. I'm pfretty sure he is going to be going to "supposedly" greener pastures than the Big Sky. I do think Weber has a pretty shot at getting Trenak. I don't have any proof, just a hunch.

Yeah... Tre Johnson is being looked at by the Cats as well?? I'll try to find some additional info on him.

I haven't heard anything yet about anyone. I've heard that Tresnak is really interested.

Would he be a good fit for the Wildcats (Tresnak)? I looked up the Tre Johnson and Justin Omogun info. WOW!! If Weber could get Johnson that would be a huge pick up for the Cats. Omogun, would be nice also, but it looks like he'd need a couple of years before he would be in a position to really contribute, but who knows, maybe he'll have a great SR. season and come to the Cats that much better and ready to play. Either way, I liked both players. Also, that Richardson kid looks really good also. I'm excited to see who Rahe gets this fall.
Have you heard about any JC interest?

Parker Dalrymple... 6-10 195lbs. He is being looked at by the Wizard. He doesn't have great numbers, but he is a good student, quick learner, and is very dedicated to improving his game. As a freshman he was 5-10, so he has grown quite a bit in four years, and there is still a possibility that he could grow some more. He would be a definite project, but who knows, maybe he'll have a good senior year and if he is red-shirted can really become an impact player as a RedFR. He does need to put some muscle/weight on, improve his jumping abilities, and toughen up a bit, but those things can all come. He'd be a great preferred walk-on, as long as the Wizard could find him some financial assistance elsewhere on campus.

Also, keep your eyes on a kid named Max Foder...

Matt Korcheck: http://utahstate.scout.com/a.z?s=208&p=8&c=1&nid=4323470.
If you notice he has been offered.
Three Star Recruit... 6-9 210

He along with Ben Mills (two stars), Carter Warnock, Kyle Tresnak, and Alex Tiffin, and Dalrymple have been offered.

More Jon Lyod info:
http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recruiting/tracker/player?recruitId=56041&season=2010&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fncb%2frecruiting%2ftracker%2fplayer%3frecruitId%3d56041%26season%3d2010

He is the third Combo/PG to be offered. The other two Jordan Richardson and Ryan Whitehead.

I heard that August is a "quiet" period for recruiting. Does this mean that we wont hear much about recruits till September? Who are the top recruits? What does Weber need the most?
I'll try to answer each of these questions, but I'd like each of you to voice your opinions.

1. Yes...We wont be hearing much till September, I think the coaches have their list. There might be a couple added, but most likely not. Right now the coahces are trying to figure who are most likely going to sign and which ones will need to be brought in for a visit and who we need to pass on.

2. Thats pretty easy: Ben Mills, Kyle Tresnak, Tre Johnson. But this is my opinion. I'm not to worried, I'm sure Rahe has assembled a great list, and that all the kids on it would be an immediate impact on the team.

3. Its pretty easy...Weber is looking for a Big Man, I guess preferably from AZ (the one from WI would be great). I'm sure another guard or wing might be added as well.

6-8, 210lbs Alex Tiffin has made a verbal commitment to stay close to home. Tiffin is from Thousand Oaks CA, and is going to be playing for the Aggies of UC Davis outside of Sacramento CA. UC Davis is part of the Big West (Great West Football member) conference. According to rivals.com Tiffin is a three star recruit. Along with being recruited by Weber, he was also being looked at by: Drake, Holy Cross, Hawaii, San Jose St, Penn, and UC Irvine. Every school on his list offered him a scholarship.

However, according to rivals.com 6-3, 180 lbs Michael Perez of Tucson AZ is being recruited by the Wildcats. Perez is listed as a SG, but is more accurately a combo guard. PUEBLO MAGNAT is his High School in Tucson. Last year, as a JR, he averaged 23.4 pts a game. Along with Weber, he is being recruited by Big Sky schools Northern Arizona, Sacramento State, and Northern Colorado. As well as being recruited by Boise State, UTEP, UC Riverside, and Cal.

Actually, the quiet period means the following

Quiet Period

The college coach may not have any in-person contact with you or your parents off the college’s campus. The coach may not watch you play or visit your high school during this period. You and your parents may visit a college campus during this time. A coach may write or telephone you or your parents during this time.

Beginning August first coaches can now contact 2010 recruits by phone twice a month. basically what the August "quiet period" means Coaches have to stay on campus and can only make contact with prospects by phone, max of two phone calls, but if the prospect call you it does not count, or if the prospects visit the campus on their own dime. This means coaches are encouraging prospect to stop by and visit the campus, especially if they with in driving distance of school.

The other thing to remember is that after the July evaluation period, the coaches head home decide who they like and start making offers to prospect. I would venture to say that August is a big if not the biggest month for offers. I would also point out that this past week their have been quite a few commitments from athletes. August while called a quiet period is any but a slow month recruiting.
