2010-11 Recruiting

Personally, I think Weber has as good of a shot at beating USU in Logan as USU has at beating Weber in Ogden. Both schools have healthy programs, which are going to be very competitive in their respective leagues. Weber returns 4 starters (two Sophmores) from a team that won the Big Sky. Also, they will be adding some strong JC's this season along with great Freshmen. Lindsey Hughey was a 2nd team NJCAA player, team MVP, and Conference 1st teamer. Franklin Session was the California JC MVP and Josh Noble was also a conference 1st teamer and region MVP. As for Big Men...most 7' never pan out. Two things indicate how good a 7' is...how early they sign and with whom. Most great, or even good, 7' end up in Major programs. Unfortunately, USU is in the WAC, which is just barely out of the mid-majors. However, who knows. They all might turn out being good players. I hope they do, just not against Weber.

Lets all be honest Bendall is USU's best chance at replacing Wilkinson, and the chances of that happening are pretty slim, but that might not matter, since Tai is going to be the go to guy.

I don't see Weber going better than 1-1 against Utah State. The Aggies return 4 of 5 starters from a 30-5 team that won the WAC and almost beat Marquette in the NCAA tourny. It's always tough to beat the Wildcats in Ogden in an instate matchup, but the Aggies could do it. It depends on whether their post replacement for Gary Wilkinson comes through. IMO the Aggies have really stepped up the level of their recruiting over the past couple of years. They're going after mainly HS players now, and they're going up against MWC, WCC, and even PAC 10 teams for some of them. You rarely see USU offer a kid who ends up in the Big Sky or Big West anymore, like they did in their Big West days. They don't go after nearly as many JC kids as they did while in the BW, or their first couple of years in the WAC, and when they do go after a JC kid, he's good. The Aggies currently have only 3 JC players on their roster. Green and Bendall from SLCC, and Quayle from Western Wyoming. Green was 1st team Region 18, Region 18 MVP, all tourny NJCAA, and was the Bud Obie award winner in the NJCAA tourny. Bendall was all Region 18, Region 18 all tourny, made the all NJCAA tourny team, and has a year in the USU system before playing at SLCC. Quayle was a JC 2nd team all American, Region 9 MVP, and was 2nd team all WAC last year. Not to sound smug, but those types of JC players do not typically end up in the Big Sky. But again, the key for USU is replacing Wilkinson. If Bendall, or Niang the 6'9" player from Senegal, or DiLoretto, the 7'1" 230 lb C they signed late come through, then everyone will have a tough time beating USU this year. DiLoretto is why the Aggies dropped off Mills, Korchek, and Railey, after offering, and didn't pursue Tresnak. That, and because they have 7 foot Jordan Stone coming back next year.

good info...

Both games will be very tough for WSU to win. The key to beating USU (other than to not play then in Logan lol) is doubling up on Wesley, if he gets in foul trouble he's a non-factor as we saw last season - especially at SUU. He played 5 min in that game and had 5 fouls.

The other key is shutting down Quale. These 2 players are most important, don't give me any nonsense about Bendall, he sucked at USU the first time around but to be fair he was a freshman and its been 4 yrs for his return. Weber's best player just so happens to be a pt guard. He will matchup nicely against Quale. Infact, the Quale/Lillard matchup is one I'm looking forward to most of any game all season. Good thing I get to see it twice!

I find it hard to believe Bendall will be anything like Gary.

No matter what we know Stew is going to have a very good team but WSU will also be good.

WSU vs USU in Ogden: 15-13
WSU vs USU in Logan: 8-19
WSU vs USU on neatral: 2-1

Like CatCat, I'm really looking forward to the Lillard/Quayle matchups. Coach Rahe has praised Lillard's work ethic and progress this summer. He will be a lot better this season than he was last season. USU definitely will be taller, but Weber will be quicker. Stew always gets his teams ready. The Aggies are tough, disciplined, and patient. For Weber to be successful against USU, they need to be more physical and disciplined than the Ag's, which is really tough to do.

Also, I agree with Catcat with regard to Bendall. He isn't anything special, and isn't going to be the next Harris, Nelson, or Wilkinson.
