2010-11 Recruiting

I wish I had some info to convey to you all, but unfortunately, I've heard absolutely nothing. The only things that I've heard is that Mills is still considering Weber, I know this because we are at least still on his list, and that Tresnak is a fan of Rahe's on facebook. Other than that, I'm totally at a loss (nonplussed for all those who would like a graduate level word).

Mslcat is totally right. August is, most likely, the most important month of the recruitment season. Whats most frustrating about this August is that there is virtually no info coming out of the Dee about possible verbals or committments. Until more info is realeased or procured, all we can do is speculate on who the Wizard is eying. Of course, I've come to the conclusion that Weber is looking for two big men, a wing and a combo guard, but each year, I'm definitely surprised.

According to Rivals.com, Tresnak is visiting Weber on 8/29

Thats great news!! Tresnak would be a great addition... He has size, quickness, and most importantly, he is a great student of the game (he's extremely smart). The more I read about him, the more I want him to become a Wildcat. I'm pretty sure he'll be at the Volleyball match tomorrow morning. The Cats are playing UV-Tech, I think, at 11 am. Then again...I could be completely wrong.

From what I can tell right now, his stock has definitely risen. Boise State, Utah State, Western Kentucky, Colorado State, Buffalo, and a number of Big Sky schools are after him. One thing I've noticed about the rivals info is that it says he is coming to Weber, but he isn't visiting Utah State. There could be a number of reasons why, he's been offered by Weber, Utah State didn't invite him for a visit and they haven't offered him, or he's (this would be my fav.) not that into USU. No matter, it really doesn't matter, all that matters is that he likes Weber.

USU just added a 7 foot freshman to the roster for this season and the Aggie roster is loaded with bigs for the next few years. Bendall, Niang, Grimm, the 7 footer, and 6'11" Jordan Stone coming back from a mission next year. It's very unlikely that Morrill will go after Tresnak, who was low on the list anyway, and hadn't been offered, so you're safe there. We had offered Ben Mills, and Matt Korchek a big from Arizona, both of whom you've offered as well. Unless something happens with one of the bigs already on the roster, we probably won't sign another for next year, so it's likely that the offers to Mills and Korchek are either rescinded, or on a wait and see basis. So good luck landing a good big or two. I've always enjoyed the rivalry between USU and Weber State. I think it's great for instate basketball, for both programs, and always cheer for the Wildcats except when we meet up.

According to the Rivals.com Arizona Varsity.com page, Tresnak committed to Coach Rahe today after his official visit.

From ArizonaVarsity.com:

Horizon senior big man Kyle Tresnak made some huge strides during this past summer, and it all paid off this morning as he made his commitment for the next level.

Tresnak made it official today
According to his father Frank, Tresnak took his official visit this weekend to Weber State and called head coach Randy Rahe earlier today to let him know he has committed to their program.

Tresnak played this past summer for the Premier club program and began to come into his own taking on other top talent around the country and making his presence known. The only thing that slowed him down was some severely bruised ribs as he finished his play in Vegas and ended up grinding it out in the recent Desert Dual held here in the Valley.

Tresnak, along with rising junior PG Collin Woods will be in solid position to make a run at state in the 5AII conference for head coach Paul Long.

Weber State is making a strong push to attract Arizona's finest.

Props to Kyle from all of us at ArizonaVarsity.com.

GREAT NEWS!!! Welcome to Tresnak and congratulations to him on becoming a part of the Weber State family. He has committed to a renown program, one with great tradition, a excellent reputation, and a storied past. I can't wait to watch him play.

Who is the 7 foot freshman. I know that USU got a kid from Bingham high (Ben Clifford), but he is 6'10; Weber was going after also. Whats nice about this kid is that the U and the Y were both interested but, unfortunately, for them, his top two schools were Weber and USU. That is refreshing, something that is rarely seen...

USU always does a good job getting good height, and most importantly they use that height very effectively. It'll be interesting seeing Bendall back in Logan. I think that Morrill definitely owes SLCC coach Parish, for helping in his development into a quality player. HE is a hard working kid, and a great guy. I hope him the best, and his team. November 13 is looming....

According to ArizonaVarsity.com on the Rivals network, 2011 grad Collin Woods was offered yesterday by Coach Rahe. He is a PG that plays with 2010 commit Kyle Tresnak at Horizon HS in Phoenix. Looks like the Wizard is working the future!

I don't know this for sure, but I'm pretty sure that Weber is done. There might be a chance that Weber gets one more, but as for scholarships that might be it for the Cats. However, both these kids are great additions. I've heard that they were Rahe's top choices.

Do you have any more information on this kid? What are the chances that Weber will get him?

I had heard rumors that the 2010 recruitment class was over with the verbal commitments of Tresnak and Richardson. However, while purusing rivals this morning I noticed a couple of new names on Weber's list: Scott Bamforth and Chris Mast. Bamforth is a (SG) 6'2" 180 lbs soph at Western Nebraska C.C. and Mast is a 6'6" 190lb (SG) from the College of Eastern Utah. Bamforth has been offered.

The Wizard said today that he got his top two recruits, and is looking at adding one more player this fall. He said we will know within a couple of days. The kid is in the process of making up his mind. If he decides not to come, the Wizard said that Weber will, in all likelyhood, add a kid next spring.

Weber has been recruiting Tresnak for two years, and that he was getting offers from a bunch of high mid-major schools, and was being looked at by high-major schools. He is 6-10 according to coach. Rahe also said that Richardson will be a really good player, and was a great find for the Cats.

He also said that, at least, three players will red-shirt this season. I'm thinking that the three Red-shirts will all be freshmen.

Tal doesn't have much of a life right now. Did Rahe talk about the schedule at all? How good is Utah State? Are the Cats going to go 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2 against the Ags?

Tal does have an okay grip on Weber's recruiting (I don't want to give him a big head, even though it seems, at times, like he is the only one concerned with recruiting news). However, I think BobandWaldo is by far the most knowledgable member.

By the way, where has purplefogdog gone?

I for one am really excited to see this years Cats. Coach Rahe has done a great job assembling a strong and determined team. Conference is going to be a huge battle. I've heard that six or seven teams in the Sky have their teams from last year back. Also, I heard that Rahe said that UM and ISU have the best chance to win the Sky. Of course he is being modest...Weber is the team to beat.

Scott Bamforth: 6-2 180 SG/SF #22 Western Nebraska C.C. Last season Bamforth was the leading scorer as a freshman. He averaged 18.5 pts, shooting 43% from the field, and 39% from 3pt range (he made 88 3's). He is an 80% FT shooter, and is a really good slasher and passer. He lead the team in assists, was second in rebounding, and steals. His assist to turnover ration is 2.1/1...

Currently, the interest in him from Weber is HIGH. We are the only school that has offered him.

I don't see Weber going better than 1-1 against Utah State. The Aggies return 4 of 5 starters from a 30-5 team that won the WAC and almost beat Marquette in the NCAA tourny. It's always tough to beat the Wildcats in Ogden in an instate matchup, but the Aggies could do it. It depends on whether their post replacement for Gary Wilkinson comes through. IMO the Aggies have really stepped up the level of their recruiting over the past couple of years. They're going after mainly HS players now, and they're going up against MWC, WCC, and even PAC 10 teams for some of them. You rarely see USU offer a kid who ends up in the Big Sky or Big West anymore, like they did in their Big West days. They don't go after nearly as many JC kids as they did while in the BW, or their first couple of years in the WAC, and when they do go after a JC kid, he's good. The Aggies currently have only 3 JC players on their roster. Green and Bendall from SLCC, and Quayle from Western Wyoming. Green was 1st team Region 18, Region 18 MVP, all tourny NJCAA, and was the Bud Obie award winner in the NJCAA tourny. Bendall was all Region 18, Region 18 all tourny, made the all NJCAA tourny team, and has a year in the USU system before playing at SLCC. Quayle was a JC 2nd team all American, Region 9 MVP, and was 2nd team all WAC last year. Not to sound smug, but those types of JC players do not typically end up in the Big Sky. But again, the key for USU is replacing Wilkinson. If Bendall, or Niang the 6'9" player from Senegal, or DiLoretto, the 7'1" 230 lb C they signed late come through, then everyone will have a tough time beating USU this year. DiLoretto is why the Aggies dropped off Mills, Korchek, and Railey, after offering, and didn't pursue Tresnak. That, and because they have 7 foot Jordan Stone coming back next year.
