2010 Commit List

I know I've used this lame joke already, but I just can't let it die.

As much as I want to recruit some talented females for this team, the last thing we need is a supermodel. James King would have spent too much time going to photo shoots and not thinking about football.

Anyone else surprised we didn't sign a HS quarterback? Looking at the roster we will only have three quarterbacks - that's a HUGE concern.

First of all, we offered Demetrius Williams from Inderkum who ended up signing with Idaho and also we had a commitment from another QB out of the Bay Area who backed out and is going to prep school, so we did make QB offers to high school guys.

Secondly, I was told last night at the dinner that we have three kids in this weekend. We aren't done and Marshall said that he would still like to get a QB. So its not over yet...stay tuned.

Re: James King

A real talent. He should take his time and make sure he makes the best decision for his future. If Sac State runs out of scholarships, so be it. He'll have plenty of other schools to choose from even if it means greyshirting.

Why give a verbal committment if he had no intention of honoring his word?

Oh well, good luck to him.

As Curley would say, easel come, easel go.

Ask the 7th grader that just verballed U$C.

When it comes to the recruiting process it seems like both schools and players need to do what is best for them. Sperbeck had to do the same when he replaced Mooch. There was the kid from Auburn that had given a verbal committment to Sac State and then the offer was resceinded. If this kid has a chance to go to a service academy and it works I say good luck.

Here is a good one that the Mustangs snuck out of the Hornet back yard. Cal Poly signed Elk Grove OL/DL Lefi Letuligasenoa (6'2" 285) on Feb. 3rd. Lefi is a stud football player. He is also a stud wrestler and thrower on the Elk Grove track team. Lefi just won the State 285 lb Championship yesterday. Here is the kicker, he beat Cal Poly wrestling recruit, #1 ranked Drew Meulman, in the championship 3-2.

Too bad wraslin' is a dying varsity sponsored sport. I read somewhere that UC Farm Extension and Bakersfield were/are dropping (highly considering) their MW program. Anybody hear about this? Northridge dropped a sport, swimming.

Actually, Bake cut four programs: Wrestling, Womens tennis, M&W Golf.

I can't see UCFE keeping 27 teams at varsity status with tuition going up 32% and funding down.

Good get Stang. I am sure he will be a force wherever he plays for Walsh.

Nice land. Any idea if he will be used as an OL or DL?
He played all three positions on the OL for Elk Grove plus DT on defense. Walsh said he could possibly play at any of the four positions, but he will start out as a offensive guard.

Slo, I'm know Lefi is a terrific player and an even better student (4.07gpa), but if you look at our OL recruits and the guys we have returning, we didn't exactly let anyone "sneak" out on us. We have David Born, the BEAST from Bakersfield, who redshirted last year and is 6-8, and new recruits Lars Hanson, out of Palm Desert at 6'8", Derek Stickney at 6'7", Nate Devan at 6'5" not to mention returning players, Nate Doverspike, Vince Weaver, and Kevin Galindo at 6'5", Clay DePauw, Chad Tannebaum at 6"4' and John Taylor and Matt Shin at 6'3", plus about 5 other guys at 6'2 or less. The days of the Hammerheads are back. Our OL will be incredible for the next three or four years. A lot of these guys played hs basketball and they are terrific athletes and good students, not just big fat dudes. I'm not saying Lefi's not a great get, but we aren't at all ashamed of the talent we have coming in. Its a huge improvement.

GCM: Is that prob with wrestling a $$ issue or a Title IX issue? While it might be a bit early to pull the trigger on, but a girls' wrestling team might work. Like my concept with girls' football, it could be done in the mold of girls' water polo. In fact, it's already got a start at the high school level. I know for a fact that Stockton-Edison High has a pretty formidable girls' wrestling team. Just find out the HS's that have it (even if it's just a girl or two), recruit from there, and when word gets out that colleges are recruiting it, it should explode as GWP has.

Of course, do we really wanna help the Manure Pile? LOL.

HHD, I know that the Hornets landed some outstanding talent on the O-line. Cal Poly and Sac State are recruiting for different styles of offense and Lefi fits better with Cal Poly's style. I only posted it here because I figured some here probably have seen him play or at least have read about him.

I know a player that was on a recruiting trip to San Jose State with Derek Stickney and he and his father were very complimentary of Derek. This kid ended up at San Jose State and he said SJSU lost a very good player when Derek committed to Sac State.

In the future the Hornets should recruit wrestlers. As a group they are amazing quick, have great feet, superior body awareness, and outrageous work ethic. Wasn’t Jake Croxdale a wrestler?

I agree fajadadu....

The sport in general develops terrific attributes and not to mention toughness. The problem is people over look guys like that because they are "undersized" but would handle any bigger guy any day, they just spend their days manhandling people and cutting weight to be more competitive. Like faja said look at Croxdale he seems to be one of the most explosive, hardworking, tough guys on the roster and he's only 5'7. All I'm saying is there are some diamonds in the rough in this area that are just waiting to be found.

i think crox did wrestle up to his junior year.

i never wrestled, but hung around some wrestlers during college. after watching some 110 lb. wrestler take down a football player over twice his size and make sausage out of his face, i realized i would never mess with ANY wrestler. you're right about the conditioning and the brutal training regimen. after doing about a million pullups, situps, pushups and wrestling, football seems somewhat dignified and easy.
