2010 Tournament

My problem with any tournament is that I always think there is a chance. I'm always thinking to myself, "If only we can get on a roll. You never know what will unfold in single elimination tournament"... but then again, I was the guy who went to PGE every Saturday thinking it was going to be the day Glanville was going to get things turned around! Probably just setting myself up for more disappointment, but it sure would be nice to see the seniors go on a little run to end their careers.
 
Well, that's exactly how it went last year. It was clear that we would move into the BSC tournament, but it was far from clear that we would actually dance.

Even if we were to win out to go to the tourney, we'd have a losing record. There is nothing more embarrassing than being in the tourney with a losing record.

Yes, there is. It's called having a losing record & not being in the tourney.

Plus, a losing team will likely get the play-in game. That's a free, easy shot at an NCAA Tournament win.

Here is how the Big Sky Conference tournament seeds look after Friday night's game:


Weber State has secured the No. 1 seed and the outright regular-season title. Weber State has a bye to the semifinals on Tuesday, March 9. Weber State will host the semifinals and championship at the Dee Events Center

Northern Arizona has secured the No. 5 seed. The Lumberjacks will play a quarterfinal game on Saturday, March 6 at either Montana State or Montana.

Portland State clinched the No. 6 seed with its win over Idaho State on Friday. The Vikings will play a quarterfinal game on Saturday, March 6 at either Montana, Montana State or Northern Colorado.

Northern Colorado will be the No. 2 seed and earn a bye to the semifinals with a win on Saturday over Sacramento State OR a Montana loss to Montana State.

Northern Colorado will be the No. 3 seed with a loss to Sacramento State AND a Montana win over Montana State.

Montana will be the No. 2 seed with a win over Montana State AND a Northern Colorado loss to Sacramento State.

Montana will be the No. 3 seed with a win over Montana State and a Northern Colorado win over Sacramento State

Montana will be the No. 4 seed with a loss to Montana State.

Montana State will be the No. 3 seed with a win over Montana

Montana State will be the No. 4 seed with a loss to Montana

Yep, huge win for us, MSU is a way better match-up for us than Montana. We've got two quality opponents left on our schedule in Weber and Seattle U, a chance to gain some momentum...
 
Thoughts on us versus Montana State in Bozeman?

This is a winnable game if we play well and match up talent for talent.

They've killed us with the three ball in the two meetings thus far. It would be nice to see the press that we've been playing that drops into a combination of zone and man defense during the game to keep them off. Our zone gave up a ton of three's against Weber, and MSU has proven that they can shoot.

Hey Vikings Fans! Looking forward to our match-up with you guys on Saturday night. Hopefully, Cat fans can pack the Fieldhouse and make it a great atmosphere for playoff basketball. Sorry to hear about Waters, the guy is a stud! But if I were a betting man, my money would be on him to be on the floor. The kid's a senior, it's tourney time, and he's a competitor. He may not be 100%, but I am sure he will see some action.

I sure hope he is healthy enough to go... but Coach's twitter post from Friday has me a little worried:

"Big sky 1st round game tomorrow at montana state...PG Dane Johnson needs to be ready. Biggest game of his life."

I just don't see Waters saying 'I'm hurt' in what could be the last game of his college career. Waters wears his emotions for the game like a backpack and I could see him saying 'I'm good to go coach' even when he's missing a leg.
 
I totally agree, Marty. It seems Waters is an absolute warrior. I guess what I was trying to say was that I know he'll play even if he has to crawl up and down the court... I just hope his injury isn't severe enough to cause him to be ineffective so Geving has to sit him out.

Also, i hope the injury doesn't effect that high kick/gallop thing he's been doing lately after some big shots :D
