2011 Sac State Schedule

If OSU can do a roadie at a 3-8 school in a I-A league Sagarin-rated lower than the Big Sky, why can't they do a roadie at a better-than .500 school IN the Big Sky?!?

Do you mean WAZZU? That’s part of why they’re playing in Seattle instead of out in the Palouse.

The OSU alumni rag has the Sept. 3 date open. The Hornets aren’t even on their radar yet.

Uh, no.

I know circumstances have changed in the last 15 years, but in the midst of a horrible bodybag schedule that featured Fresneck, AZ, NE, and BOTH Oregons, OSU went to Stockton and LOST. That year, the Big West (though I-A) was Sagarin-rated below the Big Sky.

I guess the division designation carries more weight than Sagarin....

I remember, Pacific beat OSU, so they dropped football at Pacific. I recall at the time Oregon State hadn’t been to a bowl game in 30 years. I think they’re tougher now but if the past season if any indication, not too much tougher. They have a much better AD now too. The Hornets have looked respectable and even strong in the recent BCS match ups. I agree with your point. It looks like classification is a bigger deal than how good you are.

That was when OSU was 1-10 every year. Same with K-State.
Now look at them. A great HC and a few quality athletes can turn any scow into a Carnival Cruise ship.

A great HC, a few quality athletes, a bazillion dollars in stadium improvements, a new indoor practice facility, and a locker room – weight room - academic center bigger and better than the Broad (Plasma TVs in the locker room are cool).

Anyone know anything? My concern is with the looming budget crisis, we will have to play a second money game. Since the alleged USDakota game didn’t happen, are there any FCS teams who are available to be schedule?

McNeese State, Nichols State, and Southeastern Louisiana from the Southland conference all appear to have the 9/10 week 2 open. We played McNeese in hoops this past season so I imagine these teams have to be on the radar. They would probably want home and home agreements which are fine by me as they are all counters.

None of the Pioneer Conference schedules are posted. USDiego still has their 2010 schedule on their site so they might be available.

Week 1, Sept 3rd: @ Oregon State
Week 2, Sept 10th: OPEN
Week 3, Sept 17th: @ Weber State
Week 4, Sept 24th: vs. Montana
Week 5, Oct 1st: @ Montana State
Week 6, Oct 8th: @ Northern Colorado
Week 7, Oct 15th: OPEN (Great week for a bye.)
Week 8, Oct 22nd: vs. Eastern Washington
Week 9, Oct 29th: vs. Northern Arizona
Week 10, Nov 5th: @ Portland State
Week 11, Nov 12th: vs. Idaho State
Week 12, Nov 19th: OPEN (Causeway?)

Furshur, a home and home with a FCS school so the Hornets have a chance at a FCS win to boost the chance of a playoff invite. Although they made not need it when they win the BSC. Sorry, my source hasn't heard anything about the schedule.

Coach Sperbeck was talking the other night about some great road trips coming up this year for football and he mentioned Corvalis, Bozeman and Cedar City. Looks like we're playing Southern Utah this year.

You sure he wasn't referring to 2012 when SUU joins the BSC?

That's not the way it sounded to me. He mentioned all three as road trips for this year.

As anticipated the Causeway has been confirmed to be the final game of the season. Still hoping the last spot on the schedule is filled with an FCS opponent.

UCFE is playing two FBS opponents next year, wonder if the budget mess is making us look at adding a second FBS also.

Hope not... The program would be better off in the long run with a home FCS win, opening the door for a home playoff game, increased exposure, and a chance at a better record...

I agree but I fear there may be no option but for that second money game to keep the athletic budget afloat. I think it is too late to schedule a second FBS game for 2011, but it is something we may see in the near future. I hope I’m wrong. :|

The unfortunate part of that scenario is that given our location, we COULD be scheduling ourselves out of the playoffs, sort of like Weber inadvertently did a couple of years ago. Back East, there's more leeway because one can schedule MAC/C-USA/Sun Belt schools and get FBS credit and perhaps make a bit of a profit (figuring the diff between the layout and travel costs) and even guarantee oneself a shot at a win. No such luck out here. There are individual schools where that might work (Wazzu, Wyoming, etc), but even then the chance at a win is still much less than if we played a MAC. Travel costs would eat up any payout from going to a MAC school, just as they would if we played an Eastern FCS school.

SD may well be right. Normally, SD being right is a good thing, but not here....

Davis schedule is posted. not only do we have the two FBS games (at Arizona State, who is supposed to be loaded, and at Hawaii who was a bowl team), but, we have Humboldt on the schedule. so, that leaves 8 games to get the playoff-mandatory (recommended?) 7 D1 wins. At least we got out of the trip to South Alabama the week AFTER Hawaii.

Dr. Mike: It's OFFICIALLY six D-I wins, but realistically, you're not going to be competitive unless you have seven. Eight is better. If you have six, you'd better find some way to win the conference title. That would probably mean essentially running the table in conference, and even that might not be enough....

i don't think a western team is getting in with 6, even if 2 of your 5 losses are to good FBS teams. besides our GW games (including poly and southern utah), we have sac, and montana state on the slate. add the dakota's and a gimme vs. San Diego, even 6 will be a challange.

7 D-1 wins is the unwritten rule. See UM and CP of last season. If ever a 6 D-1 win team was going to make the playoffs as an at-large, it would have been either of those 2 teams.
