In the meantime, both players (Quincy Bair and Marcel Davis) are working hard to get their good friend, and AAU teammate, Jordan Loveridge to join them in Logan. Loveridge received an offer from Utah State earlier this week, as well as offers from BYU, the University of Utah, Weber State University and from Colorado State University.

“We’re trying for sure to get him up here,” Davis said. “He likes Utah State, that’s for sure. He also likes BYU a lot too, and I think that’s where he’s leaning toward going right now, but we’ll continue to work on him for sure.”

Seriously George, when you come here, make your points, don't lecture. You obviously follow things closely, but you are surrounded by the most childish, simple-minded fans in the state. It just doesn't add to your credibility here to call us childish, jealous or small minded, because you need to face it, in this state those are the very words that define Aggie fans. We do have our dreamers, but for the most part Weber fans are very realistic about our station in the state, in our conference and in the sports world in general.

I haven't been on the forum in a very long time and haven't posted in even longer, but i've been breezing through a lot of the comments and I've got to say this should be nominated post of the year. Spot on Utahpirate.

In a tweet yesterday, Loveridge corrected the story. He made it very clear, I hope that Goon picks up on it, that Weber State is on his list and that he is still considering the Cats. The Trib is quickly becoming the paper I hate the most in the state.

Loveridge is playing well in national AAU tournament and will surely be getting more offers before the summer is over. But the Trib still refuses to acknowledge that Weber is on his offer list. If Weber doesn't get him, I hope he goes out of state.

It isn't the Standards fault that it can't cover more about Weber State. All they can report on is, as has been pointed out, information that the SID gives them. YES, the past SID was a mute, but I think things will start changing with Paul (IT BETTER). All I know is that the Standard is more than excited to print information as long as they are given an opportunity to do so; hint hint Weber. On the 14th I put together an event that the Standard showed up at and the next day a story was printed. All it took was an email to Roy.

The Standard isn't an amazing paper, but neither is the Trib. Really, would any of us truly use any of the papers in Utah as their lone news source? I wouldn't, but I get the Standard becasue I'm from Ogden and I love Weber State, and those are their specialties.

The summer, player evaluation period is almost over. The second phase of this is the more in-depth look into each prospect's background and academics. In the next few weeks we will begin to see more commitments and firmer lists. Of course, everyone's list will be in a constant state of change until letters are signed. Some programs will bring in visitors with the hope that they might be interested in their school, once they see it. We are a little more frugal with our visits. To get a visit with us, a player needs to be close to commiting to us and we must be sure that we would accept that commitment. A very high percentage of those who accept a visit with WSU, end up signing with WSU. With football starting up soon, fall semester starting just around the corner, and basketball recruiting in full swing, its a fun time of year.

Interesting reading the blog. Tyler Ott was offered a schole by coach Rahe last year. He has visited the campus twice and played with the team both times. He has not committed anywhere but currently holds offers from Weber, Utah State, SUU, Dixie State and UTEP. These are offers of scholarship not just letters of interest. He has letters of interest from another 20 + schools. He loves Weber's coaching staff and Weber is in his "top 5". Just what has been said on this blog is why he has not verbally committed anywhere. His approach is to keep the recruiting wide open. He will start telling colleges "no thanks" over the next 2 months but until he actually signs a letter of intent he knows nothing is set in stone so why committ? By October he hopes to have the process pretty much done so he can sign his LOI in the early signing period in November before the season starts. Coach Rahe and Coach Gardner have been honest and straightforward with us. They are great. They have been very helpful for us throughout the process. They were his first offer which is why they will stay in his top 5. BTW Tom Heywood who played for Weber in the 80's is Tyler's cousin.

You are right. A good prospect needs to be open as long as it is in his/her best interest. However, there is a point at which options start to dwindle. Knowing the, exact, right time to commit is more of an art than a science. Offers can be pulled as programs get commitments from other prospects. If a prospect is really interested in a program he/she should keep the lines of communication open in an effort to get a good feeling for when things might be getting tight. It has been my experience that commitments start, in earnest, in September, heat up in October, and that less than 20% of the oportunities are left open by November. Probably, 10% of the oportunities are left by the spring signing period. I would fear that if a prospect took too long to make a commitment, he/she may not get the one they really wanted. In a perfect world, all prospects would end up in the best place for them. It doesn't always happen that way. :thumb:

FYI, I have direct experience in the process. Allow me to add to this thread:
1. Prospective players are invited to take official visits once classes begin in August.
2. The coaches will schedule their top prospects right away; if the player is interested, the offer will be affirmed during their visit and the coaches will ask for a verbal commitment.
3. If a player wants to keep options open or take multiple visits, the coaches will advise him that they will bring in the next player on their ranked list the following weekend, and whether that player looks to be willing to accept an offer or not.
4. The window for decisions is short; a player can stay "in the market" for multiple weeks, but the offers are like bananas---they ripen very fast, and may not be there at a future time.

If you are the player or parent and you have ranked the schools interested by your level of interest, it is in your best interests to take the visit(s) and choose early, while the place you want to play is willing to commit to you. Many players have gone back to what they thought were solid offers only to see a team has moved on to another recruit because of lack of perceived interest.

Thanks for stopping by and giving us an inside look at your recruiting process. It isn't the easiest thing to do, but I'm sure Tyler will make the best decision for him, and we will applaud him for his decision. I only wish our recruits the best.

As a quick disclaimer, nobody on this fan board really has the clearest idea of what is happening with our recruits. We get most of our information from outside sources. Of course that differs from school to school. Some forums have clearer information, while others don't. It is the perogative of the coaching staff at that particular school to divy out information. I think the Wizard likes to keep things a little quiter about our recruits, which is fine. Drives this particular fan a bit nutty, but I don't worry at all about who is he looking at. Since Tyler is on Rahe's list, that is proof of what type of person and player Tyler is. Coach only recruits high character kids, who work hard, are tough, and good academically.

I think everyone on this forum would agree. We would all love to see Tyler in a Weber State jersey. He is a heck of player! No matter, I wish him luck in his search and I know he will make the best decision he can.

From what I know, only Ott and Loveridge have scholies and are local.
