2012 Schedule

Wow lots of mud slinging... Can we leave that behind at e-griz? Anyways my :twocents:

- I think home field advantage matters more the later you get in the playoffs (but always an advantage for Montana regardless of round)
- The original 2012 schedule would have looked great for 2011.
- We're 8 points combined from being in the playoffs .. Hats off to the team - they showed how much depth and young talent EWU has.
- Don't like the two FBS thing either but we drew good matchups. With the performance we put up against UW we'd have throttled both this year. Also UW was very physical a week off after that one would have been great. If playing Idaho means we're not going to say NDSU then I'd assume play Idaho.
- I am a member.
- I think the bad run game was just a side effect of the injuries. The RBs look great though. I think the only real next year ? is QB... but we've gotten by in the past.
- Who do you think Baldwin is rooting for between UM - MSU?

EWU;
Good summary. I for one am not going to get sucked into a debate over the schedule again because I believe the powers that be have negotiated the best deal possible, and it does no good anyway.
Actually we were 4 points from a win in Msla, and Seattle so 8 points total would have us at 7 wins now and still to play ISU.
We have the potential to be scary good next year with the players we have and the red shirts that will be available next year. Team chemistry is always a question and that starts with the coaching staff. We lost two coaches this year for very different reasons but still must have been a distraction.
At the coaches program tonight he said he will be bringing in 2 QB's next year. I like the ideas of grooming our own QB's and we have two good athletes now in Vito and Adams.
Don't know who Baldwin is rooting for but I would go into severe depression if UM wins.

I would be depressed if the Griz win as well, but I think the Griz winning might be better for the big sky because both MSU and UM "could" receive seeds if the Griz win and the better the Griz and MSU do in the playoffs the better it is for the big sky. Just my :twocents:

After seeing both MSU and Montana play this year, it's hard for me to imagine Montana being a legit title contender. They ought to fall in that sceond tier of team hoping to make the Final Four. MSU looks like they can and might beat anybody. They were very impressive, and were the best team EWU played this season IMO.

Nov. 17 @ Portland State

It should look like the above. I am guessing on the date of the Cal-Poly game, because I can't find anything that has the date listed. But there are only two possible dates for it, and we usually have the bye late in the season like we did this year.

As I have said before, I'd rather see the Idaho game replaced with an FCS, but I know the difficulties in scheduling out West. It just isn't going to happen. That said, what I DO like about our OOC schedule is that it does NOT involve extensive travel. Our first two games are both bus trips within 90 miles of campus; that's tough to beat. Plus, depending on the strength of next year's team, the Idaho game is winnable. But I guess this does pose that on-going question of whether or not scheduling a DII at home for the first week of the season is more beneficial than going on the road. In this situation, I don't think it is. A September 1st game weeks before school starts against a DII opponent just isn't going to draw well, and what's more it doesn't count. Going on the road to play a weak Idaho team 90 miles away makes more sense.....plus the program will get a marginal sum to do it. The Washington State game you're not going to get out of; we're going to play a BCS opponent every season, and I'm actually ok with that.

Our conference schedule isn't too bad, expect for the fact that we won't play UNC or ISU, which in the past several years have basically been guaranteed wins. That said, North Dakota and Davis haven't exactly been world-beaters, and we should be favored in both those games. Our road games in conference are pretty brutal, though.

All in all, a difficult schedule, but what I like about it is that there isn't a ton of tough travel and basically every game is winnable. Hell, with the talent returning it wouldn't even be out of the realm of possibility to walk out of Pullman with a "W".

The fun one for me is picking between Idaho and WSU. Obviously, WSU is the bigger game. But Idaho gives us a better chance to win. I might bring the family over for the Idaho game and if we win, take the next week off and stay for the WSU game. I could conceivably attend 7 games next year. I only made it to 3 this season and felt like I ms=issed a lot.

Yep, if there's any positives with playing the 2 FBS teams next season, it's that they're only 90 minutes away any people that usually can't make a road trip can make one out of one, or both of those games. Five home games plus two in the Palouse is 7 opportunities for the die-hards to catch EWU football with relative ease.

Dislike. No break down the stretch. Although it would give us a chance to heal up from possibly injuries sustained in the play-up games.

Dislike as well. This means 3 road games to open the season and no bye late in the season. Guess I better edit that schedule.

Extreme dislike. It makes no sense whatsoever to lose all the early season football buzz before you decide to play a home game.

Perhaps that means we are looking to buy out the Idaho game? I can't believe Chaves would want a repeat of the shit he took this year for the miserable schedule next year with an even worse schedule that has us going 5 weeks before playing at home.

hopefully Idaho buys us out and not the other way around but that is unlikely since they are doubtful to give up an early season game at home. I guess we are their central washington or eastern oregon. The Idaho game is also likely to be a game that people want to see so i doubt that date changes much. I doubt wsu wants to plays us that early in the season after we almost upset UW but props to their AD for keeping these type of games and the revenue in state. Just out of curiosity i wonder when school starts fall 2012? Maybe that was a consideration in the date of the cal poly game.

At this point, the schedule is the schedule. I'm happy that I'll get to go to eight games next year, with the Portland St. game actually being the closest! I'm a little tired of watching them on my computer, especially when you lose the feed in the second O/T!

Frankly I think it a pretty good schedule. We have a VERY good chance to be 1-1 against two FBS schools and not have to travel more than a short bus ride.
If I could change anything it would be to have Cal Poly on Sept 15 and bye on Nov 3.
My concern would be that is so cheap for Idaho to buy out of our game they might do that to avoid an upset by FCS school and we are scrambling last minute to find a game.

I'm not sure at this point in time Idaho could afford to buy this game out. I expect that with us having a new QB, they will expect this game to be winnable.

I like this schedule a lot. I think the bye week being week 3 is the best for next years team. We'll have a new QB and will have played two quality non-conference opponents. The staff will have two weeks to make any corrections necessary before starting conference play. I can't think of a better environment for grooming a new QB.

I expect both of the BCS games to be highly competitive. We could win both, one, or neither. I think they players have played these teams enough in summer 7 on 7's to know they can win these games. One advantage to this scheduling is recruiting. The regional players that make up the majority of our squad follow these teams. Playing competitive with these teams helps recruiting. Another advantage is that playing competitive against these teams can improve your regional fan base. Another advantage of playing these two teams is that most of our players were considered by these programs and not offered. That motivates players. Hopefully the competitive nature of these games will bring out the best in the team in terms of their off season workouts.

The facts have been presented showing that playing two BCS teams definitely hurts your playoff chances for that season, but playing them early I think is better. These coaches have shown they can put together a run, so the playoffs are not out of the question. I think the losses to Colorado and Texas Tech two years earlier, helped temper the team that eventually won the national championship. They learned that they could play with anyone, but to win, they'd need to focus on finishing games. There is nothing like a bitter loss to get you to reflect on what it takes to win. They learned that lesson and applied it countless times in the championship season. I wouldn't want to play two BCS teams every season, but next season I think the team can benefit from this sort of schedule.

Go Eags!
