2012 Spring Camp

We need to build this program. Everytime we recruit a kid, he has a network of family and friends. This network can reach to thousands of people. Our objective is to keep this network positive with Hornet pride. This network can and will touch other potential recruits. Our object is to take recruits from Montana and any Big Sky team. In the business world I think they call this Branding

You build a program by winning. You can't do that with players who are not playing up to the level that we need. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone on this board who wished Diniz and Heath did not do well. Fact is, they didn't perform.
Last year during the Spring camp game my daughter and I were watching the game. After many poor attempts from the kicker my daughter asked me a question. She said," Dad is this going to be a problem?" I looked over and noticed a look of confusion and sorrow, as if someone had just punched her in the stomach. I informed her everything is going to be alright and the coaches will solve this problem before the season starts.
That was the time to burn a scholarship and get a Junior College kicker, and give Diniz two years to develop, but that didn't happen. Diniz was set up to fail. We need to develop our recruits, and put them into a situation to feel like winners; then we all will be winners.

I was writing about the kicker, not the team. The team was the most talented in a Hornet uniform. I still would like to know why we lost in Weeks 2 and 3. Two games we should have won but were blowouts, and not in our favor.

IMO, they lost the next two because they don't yet know how to win. They played the Oregon State game with nothing to lose and with a good game plan. They played the next two games still on the Oregon State high and got their heads bashed...... Consistent winning will come with good coaching, good game plans and the guys knowing that each week must be played on the field, not in the polls. We have the athletes, but now it's up to the coaches to coach at the D1 level (we're not in JC anymore) and outsmart their opponents.

One of the coaches that had a huge impact on one of those losses following OSU is now on our sideline. Having a dedicated OC will be huge from here on out.

SD, you are spot on with that comment...

:+1: I'm really glad Sac finally has a dedicated OC under Sperbeck. It will allow the team's offensive weapons to be better tapped in to, and free up Sperbeck to manage the big picture.

Sperbeck and the hornets beat OSU. Peterson and the thunderbirds beat UNLV. I think the probability of Sac St pulling off a win against either CU or NMSU is high enough!

Some interesting new additions to the roster.

Dijon Washington, DB, 3 star recruit transferring from Nebraska. The quote below regarding Dijon:

"2/09/09 - TOP RECRUITS: DB Dijon Washington, Lawndale, Calif. -- Washington fills a need in Nebraska's secondary, which counted on walk-ons last season and loses four players after the 2009 season. Rivals.com ranks Washington as the No. 13 player at his position and gave him four stars. He earned the nickname "The Missile" in high school for being a hard-hitting safety."

De'Jon Coleman. 2 star running back that scored 47 touchdowns last year and runs a 4.4, 40.

Ofa Fitita. 2 star LB transferring from Fresno State.

And another PK from CCSF that had been on the radar for a while.

There are a few other freshman that have been added, too.
