The fact that Sperbeck scheduled to play two D1A teams this year just shows that he is confident in this team. We have good transfers that entered and are entering the program.
Offense:
QB- Either Mason Magleby or Garret Safron will start. Most likely Magleby will because it will be best for the team in the future and he has D1A playing experience playing at Nevada. He also has a great arm and can run a little bit. But if he fails Safron will be a good experienced back up. Magleby will replace the inconsistent Flemming.
RB- Sam McCowan & AJ Ellis will split time but like the QB situation I think AJ Ellis will eventually become the starter. Sam McCowan will rotate with him & give him a blow when he is tired. I like the both of them and think AJ Ellis can make an immediate impact because he has D1A playing experience at Fresno State. He maybe the best RB in the Big Sky. These two guys will replace Hillard.
WR- Morris Norrise led the team in receptions last year and will be back he will be a huge target this year if he is healthy. DeAndre Carter played a good amount and has grown up a lot will start. TJ Knowles is going to have to step up and play up to his potential being a D1A transfer from South Florida. Like I have said before he can be the Randy Moss of this team. He should start. These three guys should replace Reed, Hendershott, and Deadder.
OL- Was very young last year we only lost one starter in Dustin Pfaff. They will be very talented this year. Maybe the best O-Line in the Big Sky if they work at it. They will create large holes for the RB's to run through and create a pocket for Magleby to throw.
Defense:
DL- Weakest aspect of the defense. They need to replace Zach Nash & David Coleman which is not easy. Not sure who will step it up. We need a D1A transfer to fill this spot and make an immediate impact.
LB- All the guys are returning! Jeff Badger, Cody Allen, and Todd Davis. Davis lead the team in tackles and badger was third. Cody played the least out of the three but will provide experience and has looked very good this spring. They will be the best LB tandem in the Big Sky hands down! They will dominate this year again! All are very talented and are going to have to play even harder this year because they will not have as many experienced guys on the D- Line.
DB- We lost Kyle Monson our All Big SKy Cornerback, Joe Larche our Honorable Mention safety, and Marquese Smith who filled in for Odiase; all were solid, experienced players. We only have two starters returning in Ryan McMahon and Osagie Odiase. Both of them starred on defense last year. McMahon was second on the team in tackles and would've lead the team if he didn't miss as many tackles as he did, he has progressed through Spring practice. Odiase is a very experienced cornerback and will be good he can stay healthy this year, he was a consistent player when he did play. He intercepted Oregon State. After watching all of Chris Lopes' videos on YouTube I truly think he will start opposite of Odiase. He is a playmaker, extremely fast, tough, and plays the game with passion. He led his team in special teams tackles at UConn he has D1A playing experience. Odiase and Lopes will be the best cornerbacks in the Big Sky. I don't know who will replace Larche he was a very tough player. I didn't really see anyone stand out this Spring. We will have to wait until the end of summer camp to see who will win the job. Lopes will easily replace Monson.
Special Teams:
Returners- DeAndre Carter, and Chris Lopes will be the Kickoff Returners. Carter and Lopes are going to have to compete at the Punt Return spot.
Punter- Heath did well in the Spring game. But must be more consistent
Kicker- Jason Diniz must be more consistent.
