2013 Recruiting Thread

That's a really good question krg281, and we all would like to know the same thing. There is no list that the Vikings can publish, as that information is not available for the university to make public until the student athlete has actually signed a letter of intent. However, our good friend Greg Kluthe over at http://www.psuvikingsfootball.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; would probably be able to research and compile a list to post on his blog and then keep it current. He's a great resource and he has some pretty good sources.

Looks like Coach Burton and staff are very interested in this young man from Salem:

Justin Outslay of Salem Academy

The big linemen from the small Salem School is really gaining attention now as the preseason for the 2012 High School year is approaching. This 6'4"-265 pound powerhouse can be very good going ahead and will play in college.

Kahlil Dawson Commits To Vikings

http://washingtonpreps.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1388404" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Kahlil Dawson of Graham – Kapowsin HS in Washington just called to let us know that he has committed to Portland State University. Dawson is a 5'9" 170 pound Defensive Back who has impressed everyone that has seen him in the past 2 seasons but who has been graded down by some schools due to his size.

That was not the case with the Vikings where he found a home today. The 3 Star Rivals.com Prospect is a good one and a top rated Corner Back in the Western Region!

"They see me as a student and an athlete and realized I am more then my height. Today we came back down for a visit and my Mom was with us. Once she got a chance to see Portland State and meet the Staff she was really excited for me. It is like Family here and that impressed her a lot and of course me too," said the pumped up Dawson.

He is a big commit for the Vikings who have a few top kids on board for the 2013 Class and Dawson will be a big part of how that Class ends up if he has anything to say about it.

"As of now I am going to work hard to make sure that other top athletes realize this program is for real. Of course I am going to try and encourage a lot of the top athletes in Oregon and Washington to join me and the other guys and continue to build the program."

Wyoming has an offer in to Dawson so why PSU who is a D-1AA while Wyoming is a D-1.

"The best fit for me was here. They were the first group of Coaches to get to know me and to offer me. They got to know my family and about us and here I am not just a number. Wyoming is an amazing program but this sort of came down to loyalty and to just a great feeling overall. Academically as well this was a top choice for me," said Dawson who we have covered for 3 seasons now.

Kahlil is going to spend the rest of the off season training and getting ready to lead his team this year. He joins stand out Athlete Jake Gall of Cle-Elum in pledging himself to Portland State who appears to be having another great recruiting class on tap.

We congratulate Dawson, his Family and Community, and of course the Viks for working so hard to keep the NW Boys here at Home!

I give Mouse Davis and Jerry Glanville a lot of credit for creating the foundation for the kind of football team culture this program has and will continue to have. The family team culture seems to have made the difference along with the program being in the NW. This coaching staff has the recruiting art going on.

The Mountain West is where we belong. I hope to be saying, "Add another 10,000 seats to the Eastside Grandstands" soon.

Agreed on the Mountain West. It would be so nice to see them step up and join the FBS ranks. I know PSU has been in the habit of scheduling a Pac-10 (12) team most seasons and getting mauled for a good payday, but maybe one day a game with a Pac-12 team might actually be a "pick-em" - close. PSU may never have the resources of the University of Nike/Oregon, or even that of Oregon State, but man oh man would I love to see PSU challenge them for college football supremacy in Oregon.

Keep in mind that most of these offers have been to non-committed top prospects and the Viks are competing with a number of FBS programs for these players - JUST AS IT SHOULD BE !

If I missed someone or screwed something up let me know. I can add and delete to this list as we learn more.

Jake Gall was at the scrimmage today watching the action.

There was a group of recruits over on the west sideline today. It was interesting to hear the coach talk with them prior to the scrimmage.

Jake Gall was selected, by the Tacoma News Tribune, to Washington's preseason All-State team, along side many notable Division 1 top recruits.

Keep an eye on Michael Kluge, a 5'10" (now at 285lbs) lineman from Aloha who worked out with Myles Wade this summer. Has interest from the Beavs. Can bench over 440lbs ! This kid is SOLID !
