Found on the new being developed Hornetsports beta website. Odd, why not post it to the current webpage?

Meh. We go through this every year; a roster is posted and is not finalized until fall camp rolls around so we think players are gone. I hope this is just another case of errors on the roster.

A quick Google search gives us an updated profile with the new site:
http://sacramentostate.prestosports.com/sports/fball/2012-13/bios/castaneda_edgar_l2bu

There are also 3 long snappers listed. The snapping duties were sporadic during the final spring scrimmage so I'm guessing it will be "let the best man win" situation heading into fall camp.

No point in getting all riled up about the roster until we get closer to fall camp. The new site is looking good though. About fvcking time the website is revamped.

great news about the web site being brought up to current day standards. Such a key factor for the Sac State brand that will pay dividends in so many ways. You can see how much cleaner and sharp it will be

Per the Sac State Athletics Facebook page the new Hornetsports website will be rolled out next week.

This should clear up the roster questions:

Looks like Castaneda is in fact gone. Either he couldn’t hold up his end of the bargain in the classroom or he did something stupid to get himself kicked off the team. Looks like we have ourselves another place kicker competition this fall. Fortunately ST Coach Fred Kelley was on staff during the kicking debacle of 2011 so he saw first hand what not to do wrt choosing a place kicker.

Other notables gone:
  • • Interior defensive linemen (#92) Trevor Kelly (6 starts) and (#98) Edmund Faimalo. DL depth was a strength last season and these two departures will hurt. Sizeable depth up front will now be an issue this season, expect the run defense to be impacted.
    • Offensive lineman (#72) Devonte Martin (10 starts). A big body that could have been used on either side of the ball is gone. His loss will be mitigated with the return of (#74) Derek Stickney from an injury redshirt.
    • QB (#4) Mason Magleby. We figured this out with the addition of Fresno transfer Marcus McDade (now on the roster as #14).
    • Reserve RB (#32) Clark Partridge. Not a big loss but this removes any sizable RB from the roster. There are no big RB’s on the roster so short yardage situations could be an issue.
    • DB’s (#5) Chris Lopes and (#22) Corey Vanderbeek. Lopes transferred in from UConn and had no impact whatsoever. Vanderbeek broke onto the scene on special teams but had his impact mitigated by the new punting rules; he would have been a senior so his departure is a little surprising (maybe he had his schollie pulled and given to one of the new DB’s?).

Any info on incoming JUCO transfer, OT Justin Aysse?

Aysse seemed to struggle during the scrimmages and spring game with guys were beating him to the outside pretty regularly.

Very interesting. I'm thinking the middle of the defense is going to be an issue this year...
Yeah, but it’s not a complete loss at this point. Kelly had a breakout season and was a big body (290 lbs) but Castro (310 lbs) is still returning so it looks like it will be up to Nehemiah Mitchell , Jaycee Totty (both 260 lbs), Noah Johnson, and Nick Mazza (both 250+ lbs) to fill out the rotation. If it does get bad the coaches may want to look at barrowing a reserve OL to clog the middle as there is no shortage of big bodies on the offensive side of the ball.

Thanks for the FYI. I didn't see him on the roster so, I hope he didn't drop football. He had an inspiring story.

Just noticed that Kyi Thomas and Jacoby Carter are no longer on the roster. Wonder what happened there.
I don’t think any of those players saw much time, both might have even been walk-ons. Carter had injury issues in the past so maybe he decided to step away from the sport.

Heard the Thomas left to pursue basketball...he was a 1 year HS player that was a very good athlete but very raw...I think being a redshirt was tough on him like it is most players.

I think Carter was dealing with injuries.

I think for the most part team is going into camp healthy, only player that I know injured in Cox, lisfranc surgery and may miss camp. Possibly back week 1 or later.
