It's a crime that we are literally turning away interested fans. I know several who wanted to come yesterday but didn't because we were sold out. :ohno:
Gonzaga does that all the time

Good point. But we don't want be douchebags like Gonzaga now do we?

H@ll NO, furthermore if the Eagles raise ticket prices like the Zags have done getting a ticket will be no problem.

It will be interesting to see if we bring in more temporary bleachers for other games besides Montana.

I guarantee ticket prices are going up next season.

Attendance for this game was 10,064.

Through 4 home games:

vs SHSU - 10,310
vs MW - 9,116
vs ISU - 11. 256
vs UNC - 10,064
Avg over four games=10,187

The UND game should be close to the above, and the Montana game will probably be close to 12k, so we should average over 10k in attendance for the first time ever.

I agree with that being VA's last year. I think 11k would be pretty easily attainable especially with respectable game/W versus Oregon and a W at Northern Iowa to start the year.

My only question is have they filled that open slot with a bye or are they still trying to schedule a game for that spot. My hope is that it doesn't end up being a Central Washington or patsy game. Hope it is another home game. That MSU game looks to be a huge game now next year in terms of competitiveness despite being a non-conference game. That is the home game of the year from my view from the cheap seats!

STOP! Everyone is looking at this from the wrong angle. Those numbers don't tell the whole story. Per the EWU athletics web: http://goeags.com/sports/m-footbl/2014-15/releases/20141015o026xi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they set the number for a sellout at 8,600. If I did my math right (laptop calculator that I hate) attendance is running at 116%. I think that tells the whole story right there. Trying to squeeze to 11,000 is pointless with the facilities at their current configuration. What's next? Fence off the walkway to the upper parking lot where people can watch for free and charge for standing room?
The bottom line is seating is maxed out! The real question is how many tickets could be sold if more space was available. Anyone care to throw out a number? If its only 12,000 the GWP won't ever happen.
P.S. EWURanger I'm not picking on you just that your post had the attendance numbers in it.

Yes, they use 8600 as the official sellout threshold, but Chaves has stated that that number doesn't include the suites, touchdown club, and temp seating, so there is currently more capacity than that number. They can only sell a certain number of seats each game, because X number of seats are reserved for students. The deviation in attendance each week is based upon how many students attend the game, because they are never turned away even if it's SRO.

Percentage above official capacity is relevant, but so are total numbers. Right now if we could sell more seats each game, we could average more than we do now. There are lots of people that can't attend games right now because tickets simply aren't available - simply more demand than there is supply. That's a good thing, but we need more capacity. Glad they talked about this some on the AD's weekly poscast.

I think that with the Montana game we could get up to 13K -15K this year if we are both in the top 5 but because of the seating it is probably going to scare people away. Bathrooms and other amenities can't handle that number and people know it!

If we had the GWP done I think we could get 15-20k for that game. The Gateway would be an attraction itself and the place to be . . . . . unlike in Pullman where well . . . . .

Just looked at the Mariners attendance before Safeco opened and yes I know they sucked except for a couple years, but they had like 6-straight years getting 3mill in attendance and it was because of the building being an attraction.

May I be looking through rose colored glasses? Maybe . . . . . YES ......but with that rendering of the GWP who wouldn't want to come to this school if other Big Time FBS programs don't want us. Yes I know my wallet needs to be opened but we need to get something done sooner rather than later...every delay costs more money down the road.
GWP would help sustain our program with top flight players, attract more students, more publicity for the school and maybe help keep Baldwin here as well!

Just watched the video and loved that Larry asked those questions.

AHHHHH 15-18,000 for a home game against the dreaded Grizzly's! Will I ever live to see it? I'm 55 now so I have my doubts. Maybe by the time VA turns 55 would be more like it.

I was just perusing the internet and stumbled upon a 2013 online Eastern magazine and it said that on 11/16/02 our Eastern Eagles played the Montana Grizzlies in front of a 17,142 person crowd at Albei Stadium in Spokane after having drawn 15,678 people on 9/30/00. Can anyone confirm this?

Those are some big numbers.

Those numbers are correct, although probably 2/3rds of that crowd was Montana fans. Our fan support is night and day from back then, though, so I'd be guessing that this year's game could easily draw over 20k or more in a larger venue.

sad that we couldnt get those people to make the 20 min. drive to Cheney...plus we need a bigger place.

I firmly believe that we could sell out Joe Albi if we were playing there this year against the Griz and 4/5 of that crowd would be wearing red and black.

Nice find! But did you notice (page 21 left side blue highlighted) just under the "Joe Albi top crowds"
is a estimated attendance of 16,000 game vs. Whitworth in 1976.
About a year ago I brought up playing Montana at Joe Albi as a way to speed up building the GWP and man nobody wanted anything to do with it! Everything from: Why go off campus? To "the on campus students won't travel that far" to "we did that in the past and it was Montana fans 2:1 and I don't ever want to do that again".
I'm a west sider so I'm on the outside looking in. Would a game at Joe Albi draw Spokane area people that wouldn't do the drive to Cheney?

I think those are all very valid reasons for not hosting a game at Joe Albi Stadium, but I think there are also a hell of a lot of reasons for doing at least one game there and publicizing it the same way we publicized the Sam Houston State game this year! In my opinion, it would be a blast to play Montana there... It makes total sense. We'd rake in the revenue and there would be a hell of a lot more red in the stadiums than back then. It would also show that it is possible to sell 15000+ tickets.

Also, that's super funny to hear that a whitworth/eastern crowd pulled in that many fans. My girlfriend went to whitworth, and I'd never have guessed that was possible... Would be super fun to do it again though.... :thumb:

Attendance for this game was 9,212. Weather definitely put a damper on another game of over 10k.

Through 5 home games:

vs SHSU - 10,310
vs MW - 9,116
vs ISU - 11,256
vs UNC - 10,064
vs UND - 9,212
Avg over five games=9,992
