2014 Recruit Update?

I'm very excited to see Brax in the mix with Senglin, Joel, (an improved) Hill, and the rest next season. I sure hope Rahe & Co. can get next year's team comfortable with each other quickly and be ready to compete by the "Paradise Jam". I'm trying to make that trip happen

I would like to try and make it to the Paradise Jam also, who else will make the trip? I would like to see a thread maybe with hotels people are going to stay at.

Important not to over hype a recruit, but Braxton is having a great Senior Season. Assist to turnover ratio of 2.93 and he's one of two candidates for player of the year in Colorado! Excited that he chose Weber, but hope he's mature enough to handle getting red shirted or sitting behind Hajek. Weber is going to be stacked next year and a red shirt season might be in his best interest.

There is no way that Zach Braxton redshirts next year. It is not even an option. We will need offense in the post and he has better offensive skills than Joel and Jim.

I wonder if Hajek will get minutes next year. He looks incredibly slow now, maybe it's the mullet slowing him down. His 2 free throws were the worst of the season, one almost sailed over the backboard, & the 2nd grazed the front of the rim by a cm.

Not sure what you're seeing but there's no way, aside from an off-court type issue, Brax does not play next season. Sitting behind Hajek? :yikes: Will not happen! And, losing Tres (and dare I even say Fulton) does not leave Weber stacked. Offensively, in the paint, Weber will desperately need any help they can get and no current big has been that help, at least consistently.

I am hoping that James comes back from his injury and has an outstanding senior year. He has a long ways to go. With James and Ryan both unknowns at this point, it's really hard to say who might start. However, I think it is easy to say that Zack will be able to contribute a lot next year. I don't see him redshirting. We are going to need him in a lot of ways. :coffee:

Do you move Joel to 5 and have Braxton back him up? Or do you play Braxton, Joel and Hill together? If you play them together, thats a very beefy front court! Lots of rebounds and block shots! Defense would just be nasty!

I look at our potential starting 5 and the next 2-3 years seem very promising. Going to need some depth, but I think we are well positioned for the future!

The starting line up for next year is totally up in the air. I think one would be safe betting on Senglin and Bolomboy. Beyond that, it could turn a lot of ways.

At the end of the regular season Braxton was 14th in PPG and 1st in RPG in the Colorado 5A classification. He was 3rd in RPG in all classifications. Averaged 17.7 PPG, 13.3 RPG, 3.7 BPG, and 3.7 APG. Shot 64.6% from the field and 64.7% from the line.

I don't think it matters if you start or not. What matters is who plays when the game is on the line. Braxton has had a strong Senior year, but will need to acclimate to College life and the Weber system! I'm confident that the coaches will accelerate his development and he will make contributions next season. I like the nucleus that is coming together!

@WeberHQ: Hey good news: incoming Weber big man @zach_b34 had 17 pts, 24 rebounds (school record) in a state tourney win tonight for Highlands Ranch

I think it's hard to go from High School to playing center in the Big Sky! I still think we'll red shirt him and rely on James and Joel! Don't forget we'll have Fuller too!

I really don't think he will red shirt next season. Center is a huge need for us. Talented kids like Braxton generally don't go to a mid-major program to red shirt. Sure there is going to be some growing pains with him. But he is the type of player that we need. Big Jim is a great kid, but I don't think he is a starting center and I think he has some durability issues.

Zach Braxton Center 5A Division

Games Played

Points Per Game
17.7
Assists Per Game
3.7
Rebounds Per Game
13.8
Steals Per Game

Not a bad year. I think 5A is the top conference

It would be interesting to see if other of the top centers in the highest division of Colorado have redshirted their first years in college. I know every situation is different, but it would be interesting.

Braxton selected to play in "The Show" ! Denver Nuggets Colorado Prep All Star game!

The more I see and hear about this young man, the more I like him. I can't wait for June to see him, and the rest of the recruits, in person.

Looks like two or three of our recruits will be seeing some time next fall. Hope they can really develop a bit more over the summer. Gotta make sure they come to Ogden as soon as possible to start participating in Rat Ball.

Pretty Sweet...I'm sure BYU bound Payton Dastrup thought he was a shoe in...Nice Job Weber State University bound Ryan Richardson. Looks like these two high school rivals will be meeting up a few times over the next few years.

Three great recruiting classes in a row. :thumb: :thumb:

Next year, we may only have one spot open. To me, that will be the most challenging situation of all. Next year our team will be young, but extremely athletic. even more athletic than this year. Which is hard to believe. We should be a better rebounding team, a better shooting team, and a better ball handling team. There will probably be some ups and downs, but they should be very entertaining.

One thing is for sure, if the coaches go with one of the likely choices at big there will be some growing pains. No matter how good Braxton is (and he looks like he could be very good) it is a huge transition from HS to D1 especially at that position.

Of course, we all hope James is healthy and can contribute large next year. If he can achieve his potential this might be the best over all outcome for success next year.

Van Pelt is coming off his mission which could take some time to adjust back into the swing. VP will have several months to get ready which will certainly help, plus he had one year on the scout team to learn the system.

Could be a tough decision for the coaching staff early in the year if James is not healthy enough or ready to carry the load ... whether to develop the young bigs and experience some growing pains or start off with Joel at the 5. If they go will Joel it seems that they may have to adjust the offense to more of an up-tempo game. Plus, Joel would probably not prefer to play the season with his back to the basket although this line up would also be extremely athletic at all other positions.

I am sure the coaches will watch things closely over the summer to help make their decisions. We all want to make the best showing possible at the Paradise Jam and one of the reasons for the slow start this year was young players learning the system. For this reason alone the summer will be crucial for the bigs to participate as much as possible.

I have not heard but does anyone know how much time Braxton will able to spend in Ogden over the summer?
